Seen at the local Ford dealer. I was next door test driving a Stinger GT2 and felt like snapping this thing.

You can’t just casually say “stinger gt2"
This is the internet, I demand information!

test driving a Stinger GT2
And?

Wow. As brodozers go, the one I posted isn’t that horrible, but I just hate those wheels.
I’m about burned out test driving cars - drove a W212 E63, brand new 340i *manual*, and the Stinger GT2.

I was amazed by his level of bro.
I’m surprised you found a manual 340i. What did you think of them. I thought the Kia I drove was nice, but no way id buy one over a BMW. It didn’t feel THAT good.

It went forwards. And backwards. Probably.

But did it go sideways? without going into a ditch?

LOL, I’m tired so shitposting was easier than posting a review. Actually drove 3 cars today - 2013 E63 AMG; 2018 340i manual M-sport; and the new GT2. The Merc was stupid fun, but I’m not buying it.
I really liked the Stinger a lot. Great power, nice and quick, lag unnoticeable, and the trans plays well with the motor in Sport mode. Nice noises, too. Suspension felt good and firm, steering was OK for an electric PS car. Didn’t notice much understeer, but I didn’t really do any decelerating turns tbh.
I spent some time checking out the back seat, and banged my head on the roof the first time I got in that back seat, which is an issue. I kinda think it’s a little small inside for what I need (1 car seat, possibly another). Hatch is nice to have but it’s not all that roomy.
Interior was nice, I liked the seating position, etc etc. Rear visibility stinks, but with cameras etc., it’s not the end of the world.
Main issue for me is that I’m just not sure it’s big enough (same issue with the 340i tbh).

At my local dealer, I drove an auto 340 a while back, and asked about ordering a manual, and expressed interest in driving a stick to get a feel for it. He then offered me a test drive in an M4, the only manual they had on the lot, so I drove that. On that day, I looked online and that dealer had an Estoril Blue 340i M-sport manual in transit to the dealer, so I asked about it. That car came in to the dealer Wednesday, and apparently isn’t spoken for, somehow. I suspect it was a special order that fell through, but I was told it was available several weeks ago. Whatever, they have it.
I like that car a lot— but that particular car is a $60k car with a Sensatec interior, which I find a bit chintzy (unlike MB-Tex, which is much nicer IMHO).
Anyhoo, I loved the car, but not sure if it’s got enough room. It is roomier than I thought, and I *can* drive the car with a car seat directly behind me, which is NOT true of the GS350.
More to come on that - basically, I think I’m pretty much down to a used E550, or a new leased 340i. Weird set of choices, but I’m trying to thread the needle between a car I don’t mind driving, but has enough room to cart the family, and doesn’t cost a fortune. Dark horse would be a leased E class, but that would be bigger $ than we want to spend.

repasting what I said to KingTChalla- - this is *necessary* car shopping for me, as I have a lease that ends in 1.5 months:

Better yet, lots of Mustangs, FoSTs, FoRS etc!

It’s bigger than the 340i but I agree on the rear end; I can’t sit in the back without crooking my neck.
Maybe an out of lease Caddie v sport?

That’s not just bro. It’s 90s bro.
You need to get a Stinger so you can be one of us.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 20:14 |

You’re right, Sensatec isn’t as good MB-Tex; however, I really do like the Sensatec in my E92. It’s made me a bigger fan of synthetic leather.
I would almost say a CPO E550 and get the unlimited mileage warranty and drive it like you stole it everyday. That said, it sounds like you’re a BMW person like me, so enjoy the 340i.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 20:17 |

It’s a bigger car than the 340i, but has a little less legroom it seems, and definitely a lower roof. The 340i is a *little* bit of an unfair comparison, because that car was a manual transmission. I end up sitting closer up in a manual than an automatic, that’s just reality for me.
Loved the car, but don’t think it has enough back seat room.
Caddy V-sport is nice, but smaller in the back than the Stinger or 340, tbh.

Remember kids aren’t adults, so they don’t suffer. They will enjoy the suade headliner.... My sisters love it.
It is also the only car this side of an m5 to get suade because germans think the M4 isn’t special enough to get it.

A lot of this now comes down to my wife. She would actually prefer that I got a new car and lease it for cash flow reasons. However, she also wants lots of room in the back, because she sits behind me on road trips to keep the little guy happy. She’ll love the back of the E class, and she’ll love the monthly payment on the 340. So we’ll see...
The 340 is obviously more fun to drive, but damn the motor in the 550 is a lot of fun. More usable than the E63 I drove today, actually.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 20:26 |

Yes, but in my case, my wife also sits in back on road trips, to keep my 19 month old happy. Plus, those child safety seats take up a hell of a lot of room! !

Then go for a cts v sport! Those are amazing cars!
I hate Cadillac’s styling but it’s a very good car mechanically
![]() 04/13/2018 at 20:32 |

I’ve driven the CTS (and ATS) - I love them, but they’re just too small in back. My wife would NEVER agree to it, unfortunately.

Loved the Stinger, but think it’s a bit small in the back TBH.
I drove the G80 a while back, too and it’s very nice but that car is pretty heavy and numb for me.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 20:35 |

I thought the CTS would be more acceptable!
Early SS chevys are hitting mid 30s right now.... Get one with the mag shocks and you’re all set!

If I can help... my sister and I spent a lot of time in the back seat of the following vehicles while growing up: an ‘83 Civic, an ‘86 Civic, an ‘84 Nissan 300ZX 2+2. We were both taller than our parents. We turned out fine. We would have loved to have as much room as the back seat of the Stinger has.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 20:51 |
|
Ha- true. But car seats take a lot of room and my wife sits in back when we road trip to keep the little guy happy. So she wants space. ;)
![]() 04/13/2018 at 20:54 |
|
Solution is to have another kid so they can fight and throw shit at each other during road trip.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 21:01 |
|
Oh we are working on that, so this is really all about the distinct possibility that I will have another car seat behind me while I drive. :)
![]() 04/13/2018 at 21:14 |

Those rear facing carseats take up so much space. It’s so liberating when you can put them in the forward facing position.

Cool Cool cool. This is almost word for word what I felt about the Stinger GT. Reading your other comments here looks like the common problem is that the roof is low and raked and ingress./egress is not easy even if they do have a lot of space once you’re inside. I would have also suggested the G80 sport but looks like it didn’t meet your expectations as well.
An oft-forgotten option that might work for you is the Infiniti Q70. RWDorAWD with the proven VQ37 330HP 6 or a V8 if you don’t care about MPGs. Pretty big backseat and trunk and it’s not as low as the other ones in the class. It’s also very very reliable. Certified ones are easily available in the $35-40K range. There is also a long wheelbase L version if you want even more space. Definitely check it out.
I did a quick search on Autotrader and there are over 200 around the country under $35K under 30,000 miles not more than 3 years old
![]() 04/13/2018 at 22:09 |

Yeah, I’m looking forward to turning my sons seat around. Ridiculous how much space they take up.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 22:13 |

You know, the Infiniti M is about the only car in this space I have not driven. I probably should try it. Stopped at a dealer a while back and didn’t love the interior, plus they were busy, so I just left.
The G80 was nice but just isolated. If I wanted another car like my Lexus, I would get that. Everything the Lexus does well plus more, and s lot more space. I just want something more involving this time around.

I think you should give it a chance. The interior and infotainment is old AF I agree but quality is very good. I am not big on infotainment anyway. All I care is that it plays radio and music from my USB.
Have you considered a Jaaaaaaaaag? is the XF big enough? What about a certified A6 with the 3.0 T?
![]() 04/13/2018 at 22:39 |

When I test drove my current car, I apparently neglected to test it in reverse. It turns out it does, but vibrates a lot when in reverse, which doesn’t seem likely to be good. I’ve had it for six months though, and the transmission hasn’t exploded yet though, so that’s good.

Willowbrook Ford?
![]() 04/13/2018 at 23:31 |

Yeah, but let’s be honest, if you get a Stinger, when are you ever not going to be driving it? ;)
I have no doubt the G80 would be numb. That’s an entirely different animal.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 23:53 |
|
Yup. They had a 73 Mustang convertible out there the other day too.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 23:56 |

The G80 is great for what it is - luxury not sport.
I worry about having a car seat behind me in the Stinger. Who knows if that will happen or not but I have to be ready.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 23:59 |

I drove the XF. Nice, but tight. For that money I can get a car big enough. Loved the supercharged engine though.
I also drove an S5 Sport back. Too much understeer. Nice interior though. I’ve driven a hell of a lot of cars the last year or so.
Will have to look at the M.
![]() 04/14/2018 at 00:09 |
|
Yeah, you have to think about that. I had one in my RX-8. The important part is not how much headroom there is, but how easy it is to get the kid in and out, at least until they get to the age that they do it themselves.
![]() 04/14/2018 at 04:47 |
|
Cool. They had a mid-60's T-Bird there last year.
![]() 04/14/2018 at 09:59 |
|
Yeah, I remember that one - gorgeous car!
![]() 04/14/2018 at 10:04 |
|
Yeah, it’s funny, but we’re in a window where we really do need a lot of back seat room for the damn car seat (and wife for trips), but once he gets older and faces forward, I would be able to drive a lot smaller car.
This whole discussion would be moot if I was open to an SUV, but I’m not. So here I am trying to find a car that has lots of room but is still a pleasure to drive, has luxury features and a warranty and doesn’t cost an absolute fortune. Bonus points for AWD because Chicago (and I’m not a FWD fan).
![]() 04/14/2018 at 14:00 |
|
Laugh at me for saying this, but you can get an AWD XTS for under $30k. I was going to suggest one like my car, but even though I enjoy driving it, the K900 is not what you’ll consider a driver’s car.
![]() 04/14/2018 at 14:36 |
|
One of my hard requirements is that the car be on a RWD chassis. I did test drive an Audi S5 Sportback, and it was exactly as I expected- great engine and interior, waaaayyyy too much under steer for my tastes.
Besides that, we had an XTS as a rental out in LA a few months ago and I absolutely hated it. I like Cadillac RWD cars but that XTS is a dinosaur.

Why buy a Raptor for $60k when you can buy a regular F-150 for $50k and spend $10k making it look like a badly-executed Chinese copyright infringement of a Raptor?!

The first line answers my first question.
Were you merely flying through Oakland? If you’re here often, we ought to meet for a coffee sometime.

I like the area, but it’s best when I’m out of San Francisco proper. And I’m only a tourist there, so I don’t have a feel for the day to day BS. I’m sure there’s plenty of that.
Chicago is a common place to connect and I do work right by the airport.
