Two quick and positive notes, at least that’s what I think, for this cold and wet Friday on this miserable planet. Those positive notes come from our Italian brothers and sisters: we should all be grateful to them every now and then for just being so Italian.

From Jalopnik today; a story and video of the new Lambo Jota running around the Nurburgring. On the surface not a surprising story but the context and bigger picture is what I find so interesting and warms the cockles of my heart.
This is Lamborghini we’re talking about. Not traditionally known for producing uber fast and precisely engineered cars for cracking the speed records at race tracks. That has been the territory of their old prancing horse nemesis just down the road. For context see the picture below.
So yes, it seems Lambo is now taking precision seriously and competing with the likes of Ferrari and Porsche and others in the pursuit of precise handling and balanced performance to achieve race track success. I think that’s great and yet I’m not worried that they will abandon their wild and wacky cars in this pursuit.
I think it’s just certain cars and or special editions where they will show off their engineering skills and that’s great for everyone.

Also from Jalopnik and the same video guy/people, the Ferrari 488 Pista running around the Nurburgring as well.
So what’s so interesting about this article? Well, it has nothing to do with the sound of the car, or the time it ran at the track or how good it looked doing it: nope! What was most interesting and most heart warming was at the end of the video when the drivers and engineers are stopped and getting gas.
Parked up and several people taking photos and videos of the car while trapped at the gas station, not one of Ferrari’s people freaked out, was rude or abrasive to anyone.
In fact they seemed to have been open and or unconcerned about any of the activity by the people chasing the prototype. Too many manufacturers get hot and bothered by this and there have been several confrontations over the years with some being quite serious and involving local law enforcement.
Cool, calm and collected, maybe even letting the photogs get ‘that shot’ and a small sample of the engine note.
Good on you Ferrari and perhaps the welcome realization and admission that this only helps to stoke that fervor and love for their products and gets the enthusiast community all excited for new product soon to be out their mixing it up with it’s/their rivals.
So there you have it, two good things on this miserable Friday on this wretched planet run by idiots. Chins up and hope tomorrow that the sun comes up and it’s warm.
