Got a little farther last night. Got both axles tore out, removed the front motor mount and the trans mount, so they could be Poly filled, decided to carry the graffiti into the inner fenders:
Going to redo all the suspension components while it’s apart as well so they won’t be detracting.
I got the mounts in and cleaned up, then filled them with:
After doing some research I found a lot of guys using this to make solid mounts (or rebuild OEM mounts?). Since the van has been destroying OEM mounts, I decided to give it a try. If it works, I’ll be doing the van’s mounts and using them when I install the car’s new heart.

curious to know how badly the urethane will work.

Loving your unique graffiti. Also, how did you put the “Recommended Stories” at the bottom of the post?

Long Voyager is only been on here a few months. He not only out wrenches most of us but can use kinja better. What the hell.

What’s the failure mode of the mounts?

They are a steel “ring” around the rubber mount, so they engine/trans can’t come completely out. It just results in far too much movement, causing axle seals to leak and harsh shifts.
OEM replacement mounts have been lasting about 3 months before they are torn apart. From the research I’ve done, it seems this fix holds up for many years. One guy pulled his “fixed” mounts and took pics 5 yrs after doing them and they still looked like the day he filled them.

Just click that button, then copy/paste the url to the stories you want to link. It requires them done in groups of 3 and they must have a pic.

Eh, I’ve been wrenching since I was 12, it’s my joy in life.
I think I just get lucky with Kinja though. ;)

From what I’ve researched, it works excellent and holds up for a long time. I expect slightly more vibration transfer, but given the Urethane still gives, it shouldn’t be too bad.
I had solid mounts (custom machined from aluminum) on my old car, the power delivery was well worth the added vibration. The car had a very raw/direct feel to it, which suited it’s personality well. It made it hard for other people to drive, especially when combined with the light flywheel and stage 3 clutch. This was the car in question: https://oppositelock.kinja.com/thought-id-post-up-my-old-acclaim-build-for-everyone-1823032640

No problem, that’s what we’re here for right?

You might consider using the poly to limit travel, but not fully arrest it.

At this point and dealing with junk replacement mounts, I’m totally fine with it being a solid mount, so long as I don’t have to replace it every 3-5k.
