PROVE ME WRONG. If you’re daft and blind enough to drive that ugly-arse thing with a face only a blind mother could love, good for you.
But you’re as blind as you are wrong. This is now next to the new Avalon as the ugliest car of the year. Whoever designed this thing should feel accomplished that they actually made a car this ugly, because I didn’t think it could be done.
Space-Catfish is what I’m gonna call this facelift.

But what about the four door version of the SS?

I call this the Hell Camino

That’s an insult to both hell and the El Camino.

The whole “entire front as a grille” thing should go away

Everything here is wrong. The only right design is the photoshop in this comment on FP. Move the fucking Bowtie up to the grill, Chevy!

Sounds like the type of corporate decision they’d make anyways. Kind of like this abomination.

GM, HIRE WHOEVER PHOTOSHOPPED THIS AND FIRE THE BLIND DESIGNER.

Lately I’ve been wondering if it’s a cooling thing. With all the power cars make these days they also generate a lot more heat. Can’t do that with a fully covered nose.

By God, they finally put a turbo in it. Good job, Toyota!

ew.
And no, you’re not wrong.

No, it’s not a cooling thing. Cars don’t make that much more heat, and 75% of the “grille” is blocked off. The actual portion of the grille that’s open to airflow is probably smaller on today’s cars than on old ones for aerodynamics, and a computer being able to tell you when you have enough airflow.
Jason did a good couple of ‘shops to illustrate this.

A lot of cars that have this block off much of the grill. I think its more a “well. This makes me look rich, i think” thing.
Chrysler copied Rolls Royce and the rest is history as far as i’m concerned.
But yes, giant grills and Chris Bangle weird body creases are the two styling elements of the modern age that have taken over/ruined car design in the last couple of decades.

I’m gonna go slightly OT and defend Toyota a little here. Caveat - I haven’t seen the new Avalon for sale yet. But the Camry LE/XLE have a similar front end and the way it works in person is fascinating. They are transverse-engine FWD cars, so by their nature they have huge front overhangs. The blacked out lower grill wraps around to the sides of the car and reduces the visual weight of the front of the car. It doesn’t work in pictures, because your can’t really make sense of the curve in two dimensions. I wouldn’t call it pretty, but it does a good job of making the proportions seem much tidier when you see it in person. I suspect the effect will be even more dramatic on the Avalon.
I’m not really sure what Chevy is trying to accomplish here. I did read in the press release that it supposedly allows more air flow to the engine (it wasn’t clear if this was for cooling or the intake, but I was reading quickly). It seems they could’ve done it in a way that looked prettier, though.

they’re like flow tie? i’ll do you one better! put the flow tie on the big truck and take it off the maro because can only be on one car.

my focus st benefited greatly from opening up the holes in the fake grill to let more air flow through. but i track the car and am big turbo and still need to install my 3 pass radiator and hood vents. but if not for that probably not necessarily needed for daily driving.

edit so it is stall apparently a flow tie just in the wrong spot...

Hmm is it possible to order an RS with the V8?

I told myself that I wouldn’t buy a Camaro because the one I’d want would be a 2.0T 1LE and they’d never make that.
Well, now I need to convince my wife that I should have a Camaro...

Don’t really want a turbo 4. I had one, and it was interesting, but the V6 is smoother.
V6, manual gearbox, sport/performance options, and weight under 2 tons, and price under 40K...
Pretty much the Camaro or 370Z. And I refuse to even look in the direction of 370Z... it is as much of a practical joke on Nissan customers as the Juke and Cube.
Challenger is over the weight target, Mustang axed it’s V6... sport compacts don’t have V6s either, Porsche and Lotus Evora are over the price target, unless considering used.
I am no GM fan, haven’t been since the 90s, and only liked a few in the 80s.
But I wouldn’t completely refuse a V6 RS 6-speed Camaro convertible, and the new RS nose looks better than the previous one... faint praise perhaps, but still.

Go to the G6 Camaro site and just about anybody on the forum will agree with you, that blacked out bar makes the 2019 Camaro SS look like a Chevy Malibu.
The 4 and 6 banger models with their body colored section looks at least somewhat similar to the more attractive 2018 front end.

That GT350 photoshop is wrong, the far right and left grills have a use for oil cooler and brake ducting for the front brakes.
