This is probably the wrong crowd for this but....
Which to buy? I’m a tinkerer who loves cars and bicycles and the mountains in general. I’ve got about $1700 saved for something “fun”, but I don’t know if I should do $1395 for a Subaru Justy with 4x4 and 5 speed manual, or a fancy(ish) bike with sweet disc brakes for $1700.
Oh, the conundrum.

One has an engine, the other does not.

Bike. Then put bike on top of a $500 car. Also that is a good deal for a 105 disc brake Al frame bike.

Shimano 105 is a nice groupset that I’m quite fond of. Not a fan of AL frames though.

Can you afford to register, insure and maintain the Justy? If so, buy car. If not, buy bike. Or save more money, and buy car.

The Justy wouldn’t be a daily driver. It’d be my side project car, but yes I could afford that stuff.

I’d go for the car then.

In Finland we have one motorsport that translates as “car orienteering”. It’s something between (old style) gymkhana, rallying and off-roading. It’s not a fast sport and tiny nimble cars the best in this. 4x4 Justy has been one of the most successful and popular cars in the class. But now they are pretty much completely gone.
1st gen Panda was never sold here as a 4x4 version but it could have been a good challenger for Justys.

I LOVE that. My first car was a Chevrolet Sprint and that thing had maybe 30hp, but it was a riot. If I do decide on the Justy, the mentioned activities above sound perfect.
