A face in stone decayed by age
A man who has returned to tell of his damnation
Fears so deep, the mouth open wide
The scream died away before dawn of this time
The eyes stares so empty
The mouth screams so silent
Tell me what did you see there?
In the darkness of the past
Ancient times legends stories so dark
Blackened his sight, now
Not even the memories are left
Back after such a long time
The stone is cold as death
But what formed it’s true fears
Only the wind is able to tell

I’ve been playing too much Fallout. At first I thought maybe this was a screenshot from a heavily modified game.

I saw most of those at the sale in Retromobile a few years ago.

I was there with two of my friends. We were aiming for three cars. We had arranged a temporary storage in France and had found a place to rent a towing equipment. My target was a ‘36 Talbot Lago T120. It was actually in the nicest condition of all of the pre-war cars that they were selling.

“Expected auction price: 2,000€ to 4,000€’’

I was standing there with a bidding paddle in my hand. Our group have managed to find our way just in front of the the internet stream. My friend’s green beanie was bothering the focus of the streamers. Our friends back at home were watching how our bidding goes.

I did have some worries because the auction have gathered quite a lot attention. Even our main news site had mentioned the auction twice even though they don’t usually say anything about old cars. The auction hall was really packed. Later we heard that there was 1,600 bidders in the hall and 1,000 more on-line.

When the auction of the T120 started I was about to raise the paddle but my budget ran out in 2 seconds. I was carrying 7,000€ but the car went for 26,000€. From our group’s targets I was the closest one as the rest climbed ~40,000€ prices. We calculated that we were ~100,000€ short in our budget to get all targets bought.

My friend’s target was a Voisin that was missing some parts. This was the winning bid for it.
