Behold: Perfection
Maybe my glasses are getting a little too rosy, but I miss the Diamante my parents used to own. My mom replaced her ‘01 with a G37x sedan and she still misses her old Diamante LS. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but with 40,000 miles I’d try it out. Frameless windows, soft leather seats, and all the pizzazz that comes with being one of the last great big Japanese sedans sold in the US.

It looks like a GTA SA car.

Do not besmirch the mighty Diamante!

looks like a galant... tho i dont think any galants ever came with a 3.5 so i guess its a size biglier

Offer 5K.
These were built in Oz, no?

Not a bad car, even if the front end is a blatant ripoff of the E39.
Dual round headlights with black surrounds and orange corners? Check. Twin grilles? Check. Wide lower grille flanked by rectangular driving lights? Check. Character lines on hood that taper into the center? Check.

Yep. Imported from there to the US.

It’s a size biglier. Also wider. My parents were on the fence between this and a Galant, and the Galant didn’t have the room they were looking for.

Damn. Almost like they’re cousins. Here’s the previous-gen for comparison.

Double headlights set into a full width forward raked grille? Sounds familiar.

1-year only redesign 2004 VR-X or gtfo

They made pre-facelift versions of the VR-X too, for a couple years
![]() 04/03/2018 at 13:42 |

Not a fan of the VR-X. An LS would be perfect for me.

Or was it?
![]() 04/03/2018 at 13:50 |

The VR-X came out the year AFTER I quit working at a Mitsubishi dealer.
So I’ve never driven one.... but out of all the cars I drove and took on errands during the workday and down to school the Diamante was my favorite.

Not but the E46 is a perfectly reliable car! Just do the heater core again. /S

Pre-facelift version FTW (specifically in orange):
![]() 04/03/2018 at 16:00 |

Gotta get the VRX version.
Tighter, more powerful, still crazy comfortable.

I’m not a fan of the rear spoiler. Also, 5hp isn’t worth all that extra gaudiness.
![]() 04/03/2018 at 17:19 |
|
You have to drive them back to back. It’s only 5hp peak, but the VRX feels much better all the way through the rpm range.
If you dislike the spoiler that much, take it off. ;)

We in Oz don’t call them Smegma for nothing but they are seemingly nigh on unkillable judging on the number of them still around...

Yeah, no. Hertz gave me one of these, from their Premier Collection, as an equivalent to my 525i when it was in the body shop. Lots of power, no control over said power.
I fully understand the nostalgia aspect though. There are times I find myself looking at Fiat 124 Spyders, MGC GTs, Lotus Cortinas, Vanagons and other assorted and interesting vehicular contrivances my family once owned, wishing they would somehow bring back my youth and innocence.
I might someday buy an old vehicle, perhaps a Rabbit GTI like I once drove, but only if I have something reliable to drive as well. Nothing like having your one and only vehicle crap out on you, leaving you stuck with no easy/cheap way to get going again.

ahem - it was Australian, built in Adelaide.

Now I want one too... I’m surprised Oppo does not have a Millennia or Diamante obsessive enthusiast.
