Strangely enough, no police departments near us even USE Dodge vehicles.

It’s also been confused for an Uber Black. Good thing the doors were locked...

I had the exact same thought yesterday while stopped for some utility work. A Tahoe just like this with jet black tint drove by and the Cop was clearly eyeing it because even he had to make sure it wasn’t a police car. Our town’s force has this figured out, and only orders their Tahoes in black with faint gold liveries instead of their usual black/white massive shield.

I am automatically on the alert anytime I see a Tahoe. I run a Radar Detector but still...I have seen a beige one roll up to an accident where I was a witness and there was no fucking way I would have known until he stopped right next to me and I saw the interior lights above the rear-view mirror. There is just one Explorer the nearby county uses which is exactly like an Explorer Sport. Also one Taurus. Rest are Chargers.

We’ve had issues around here where people have been “pulled over” by an unmarked car only to get robbed. I will never stop for an unmarked car unless I call 911 first and my wife knows to do the same. Also, if someone needs help, how do I know to go looking for an unmarked car when a marked car is actually there to spot and not just for profit?

We have a couple customers that are either in private security, railroad security, or some smaller departments from towns quite a ways away that use Durangos.

Older Explorers with black grilles are hard to differentiate.... is that a roof rack or a lightbar???

That was a big problem around Birmingham, AL about a decade ago. People were buying Crown Vics (probably from police auctions) and putting lights in them and everything to pull people over and rob them. A lady who worked for us at the time had one of them try and pull her over, she called her husband first to let him know what was happening and that she was not stopping until she got home, then called 911 to do the same. They quickly sent a patrol car or two to her house. Needless to say the person(s) drove off. Don’t remember if they chased, or what happened after that though.

I think uniformed police should also wear dayglo jackets. A few years ago, my family was in DC and my oldest got separated from us near the White House. I went to the first cop I could find, and he was found in a matter of just a couple of minutes. Finding a cop near the WH isn’t hard at all, but on any other street it can be difficult. They should be the brightest damned thing around, and easy to spot.

Move to ohio, that is actually illegal for any misdemeanor (i.e. most traffic laws). It must be marked and have a mounted light. And while staties have unmarked cars, they don’t use them for much else than transportation. Source below and buddies dad and brother are staties.

Also couldn’t find the law but, I know the law enforcement car have to be visible to give a ticket. Also they have to have at least marker lights on at night.

I agree. And not just because of some feeling that it’s easier to break the law. A marked cop car will slow down traffic just by being there, therefor making the roads a little bit safer just by their presence. And, a marked car makes it easier to spot if one is pulling you over. Many people wouldn’t know if the car pulling them is a cop or not if they weren’t marked.

My township has a few black cruisers with matte black markings. That just seems sleezy and a way to generate revenue.

Someone posted a video in this thread showing a red challenger puling someone over but the car in front of them didn’t move for like 5 seconds because why would i be looking for a red challenger to have lights on? Roof bar is one thing, but unmarked hidden lights? Nope.

Ohio nope, if it was silver yes because ohio staties and light bars that look like roof racks. Sheriff’s and locals only use explorers which is mainly black, white, or silver.

You will normally get a mean look here if you have a silver explorer/tahoe/charger with blacked out rims because that was the only reason why you bought it. Everyone in ohio knows that scheme is universal with staties.

A marked cop car will slow down traffic just by being there, therefor making the roads a little bit safer just by their presence.

I fundamentally disagree with the second part of this statement. What they do is turn into a rolling roadblock below the natural speed of the roadway, regardless of what the signs say. As such they frustrate many, if not most of the other drivers and make it more likely for them to do something stupid.

Slower=/=safer.
