Just found a car for sale through Facebook that I’m torn between hoping it’s still available and hoping some other poor sucker already snagged it.
I think I’ll kick myself for being too late if it’s gone and probably kick myself even harder if I actually get it.
The owner is willing to help load it on a trailer and is only asking $200.
It screams bad idea, but look at that toothy grin begging to be saved!

It’s a beauty. Does it actually have floorboards?

The owner didn’t specify; therefore I’m assuming any sheet metal not seen in the pictures no longer exists.

Buy it, sell it for $500 to a LeMons team, and they’ll take care of the rest while you make a $300 profit.

That is the very best kind of bad idea. Just be sure your tetanus shots are up to date.

Would be a very cool old car, but a LOT of work I imagine! Are you up for the task?
Check out the
ColdWarMotors Youtube channel
by the way if you like people bringing old 40s/50s/60s metal back to life! :D

Sounds like you’ve done this before

Wood floors actually

I promise there is nothing more than can be seen in the pictures - sitting like that there won’t be floors, rockers, bottom 8" of fenders and doors, suspension, a frame...

Not only am I current on my booster, but my son just got his a few weeks ago. He can hand me wrenches without fear!

It’d be a major undertaking. Amazingly enough the owner says the engine is complete and turns by hand.
My family used to own a Desoto dealer so this may be a great opportunity to snag one cheap to hopefully resurrect.

It’d be a 5hr round trip to get. If I’m taking that long I’m going to be the one crying as I realize just how much work is ahead.

Just getting it out without it folding like an accordion would be considered a victory I’m sure.

For sure. If you’ve seen the episode of Roadkill where they pull that old buick out of a bush, it will be very much like that.

Honestly, for the financial security of your family and your peace of mind, forget about it.

Oh I definitely know you’re right. The 5 hour round trip drive to get it may be the only thing that keeps my lack of impulse in check.
I think the timing is part of why I’m tempted too. I found out about it after a discussion with the president of the National Desoto Club after letting him know my grandpa had passed.

That seems... daunting - especially for a 4 door sedan. Good luck!
Edit - that’s actually a coupe isn’t it?

Yep a coupe with a 271ci Hemi.
If it was closer I’d buy it just for the engine and grill. If I’m making a long drive I want a car I’d actually keep.

If your looking for ideas:
Keep oppo lead sled.

Oddly enough I just offered to buy lead shaping tools I found in the back room at work.

Aw, that’s kind of a weak moment. Still, framework, body work, engine rebuild, upholstery...the very thought of it all makes me shudder. It would be easier to build a car from scratch I bet.

it was meant to be.

Did you get it?

The seller seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. I’m hoping that’s because someone bought it and not because he’d gone with plan B which was scrap.
