I’ve pretty much decided to build my own AR15 platform gun instead of buying one straight up. I’m aiming for keeping it under $500 and avoiding polymer components entirely.
The only problem is that I have my entire damn build lined out, but the upper and lower receivers are both out of stock everywhere. Thanks Obama!

My uncle built one to the exact specs of Will Smith’s gun in I Am Legend and it is an awesome rifle!!!

Get it in gray so it’ll match your Jetta.

That’s awesome! Love how flexible the platform is.

Primaryarms ftw too.

Oooh, wow and they have things in stock as well!

How much did the select fire lower run him?
![]() 04/01/2018 at 22:15 |

Also, their own line of optics ain’t too shabby for the price.

I was honestly gonna go with a pretty cheap reflex sight for starters and build up from there. I dislike iron sights.

There’s plenty of quality AR uppers in stock, but they’ll run more than your whole build budget. A $500 AR is like the ‘90s Kia of gun platforms: a piece of shit.

I mean, I’ve shot $500 AR’s and $1,600 ARs. There’s nothing wrong with a cheap AR.

I bought a Del-Ton a few weeks ago. just a couple of accessories and I’m happy with it.

I’ve got a couple of the Burris FastFire III sights on my mp5 and mp5k. They’re not bad

How much did that run you?

I was honestly gonna go with one of these because I’m curious and then go with something a little more upmarket if the need arises.

If you want a cheap/good red dot, go with primary arms or the bushnell trs-25. Get a 1/3 co-witness mount too.
If you’re going for an upper with an A2 front sight base, you look into something like a magpul rear flip up iron sight to compliment it. It’s wise to at least have irons for backup purposes. Batteries can die prematurely too.

There’s usually a whole lot wrong with cheap ARs, that’s why they’re cheap. Quality costs money, and when you’re dealing with firearms, quality goes a long way. For example, a 1:9 twist is a real shitty twist for the .223/5.56 round out of a 16" barrel. Those uppers are cheap because they’re using barrels that no one wants.
Cheap ARs are great props for Instagram photos, but they’re piss poor firearms.

Around how much will either of those run me? I’ve got a simple preliminary build list here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nFRIY_TbaGbyaa-aMa9Rug4TtfcqkXCsv-MfrpZStio/edit?usp=sharing
It’s really basic though, I’ve been researching a good amount of the day.

Not bad at all! Looks like a great gun. How does it shoot?

I’ve had good luck with them in the past at least.

TRS-25 is $89.

A cheapo riser is about $10
The magpul rear flip varies but looks like PA has it for $41.99

Appreciate the links, I’ll look into those for sure. I do prefer reflex sights over anything else though. Unless I’m like shooting a SCAR or something.

Why you no like composites?
![]() 04/01/2018 at 22:44 |
|
I just don’t know how I feel about an AR15 with a composite lower/and or upper receiver. Like fine for handguns, but I just don’t know how I feel about them in things other than handguns.
![]() 04/01/2018 at 22:48 |

Firearm composites aren’t really much more of a risk than metals. Some manufacturers make some damn cheap guns out of metal that will also explode. Do some research and I think you’ll find that a composite lower will be plenty safe as well as within budget. I have complete faith in composites from a reputable company.
![]() 04/01/2018 at 22:49 |

Very true, I’ll look into it but avoid any especially new or low rated components.

So you want to build a whole gun for less than the price of the Eotech on mine :P #NotSoHumbleBrag

Pretty much, haha. Ballin on a budget. I’m getting a nice Glock to keep my .22s, 12 gauge and AR company though. So that’ll balance it out a little bit more.

So does everyone on Oppo own a Jalopy, play vidya games, owns 20 watches and guns?
![]() 04/01/2018 at 23:25 |

I have like three watches, don’t own a Jalopy and ain’t got no time for vidya games.

Nice, I have a slight preference for the XD (I own one) over the Glock due to the backstrap safety. I definitely like how the Glock and XD both don’t have a manual safety lever you have to release to fire.
![]() 04/01/2018 at 23:28 |

It threw me off at first, haha. Kinda a fan of it though. Only thing is that I don’t like Glock sights though.
![]() 04/01/2018 at 23:33 |

Why not? I haven’t fired one in ages so I don’t remember the setup up. I will say I wish the XD-S that I have had a night sight option. All I get is a little red low light “Fiber Optic” looking thing on the front.

Green Bay is in Wisconsin, the land of cheese. America’s Dairyland, according to its license plates. Green Bay Packers fans and players often wear cheesehead hats for fun and amusement, however in this case, BJ Raji is not amused.

I own a Jalopy, play video games (why not?) but don’t have a gun because Canada. No watches either.
(I do have my PAL which is the Canadian gun license, but that was for work long ago)

I have 4 watches, I do own a jalopy, the only vidya games I play are with my son every now and then. The 2nd amendment of our constitution grants me the right to own many guns of all calibers and sizes. :)

I built an AR a long time ago and shot it a lot. Sold it for a profit and got lazy so I bought a Sig Sauer M400. I love it. I could have built one comparable for a couple hundred less $$ but like I said, I got lazy and decided my time was worth more. Good luck with your build.
