What's a typical gas bill for a one-bedroom apartment?

Mine is $90, and that seems ridiculously high seeing as I only used the stove once and haven’t touched the thermostat. But then I’ve never had bills to pay before, so I don’t know what to think of it. It’s possible that I’m still paying for the initial setup on top of my regular bill, too.

Haven’t touched as in your heat literally is turned off? What’s it set at? Do you have your own water heater?

Based on mine, that’s ridiculous. In the dead of winter my 2600sq/ft (+garage) house with two people barely hits that with water heating, a gas heater, and a gas stove... We’re also fairly wasteful, leaving a window open all night (and sometimes all day) because it gets too hot to sleep in there (we do close the vent and adjacent doors, but I’m sure it loses heat that way).

I’ve never had gas in an apartment/condo, but with electric everything (including water heating) it ran around 30-35/month for me... That place leaked heat like crazy, too.

I own a tiny tiny house. My electric bill is similar if not more.

I rented a 2 bedroom/1ooo sq ft apartment upstate for about a year and a half with gas heat and hot water, and I think my absolute worst gas bill was about that, a typical winter month was more like $70-80. This would have been like 3-4 years ago.

There’s probably a connection charge if it’s your first month. They charge everyone, even if they don’t even have to come turn on the gas. Your bill should show a breakdown of the charges.

If I had an electric stove, my bill would be naught. But my grandparents do heat their home in “the mountains” and even with the most efficient system they do get 500 bucks worth of bills a month.

I had an upstairs, almost definitely uninsulated, single-pane window, 800? sq ft apartment in the heart of gas country, cost $300/month in the colder months, everything else was electric. My next house had gas hot water and stove too, 1,800 sq feet, also $300 in the cold months. My current house, 1,200 sq ft, definitely not insulated, all electric, still roughly $300 in the colder months. $90 doesn’t seem too bad, especially if it includes a hookup fee.

Depends on the area / company. For comparison 60 year old 2 story home, needs insulation work, new gas stove, new gas hot water heater, old furnace - when it was 20 out for a month my gas bill was ~$100. (Chesapeake VA, Va Natural Gas)

Another question is have you checked for drafts, how old is the apartment and what’s the thermostat set at?

And some comparison details.

I’m sure part of it is location; I’m in NE Ohio with 1200 sq ft of house (plus basement), gas heat, stove, water heater, dryer, and a heated 24x24 uninsulated attached garage and my gas bill is less than that a month.

Thermostat still works even if you don’t touch it, btw. I was getting a $25 service charge every month even if no gas was used. I had to not pay the bill until they shut it off because my rental agency was just going to add it to my rent if I cancelled service

My whole house is about that. But I keep the thermostat at 65
