Kinja'd!!!

This was a long time coming - over the weekend we finally put my girlfriend’s bike up for sale. Although I was never a huge fan of the little CBR250R, letting go of this motorcycle most likely marks the end of her riding career. It’s the correct step, but I’m kinda bummed about it either way.

It would’ve been cool to go on some day rides together, side by side, but it looks like I’ll be carrying a passenger on the back.

Can I interest you in a 250 instead? It’s red, just like the Daytona. Red = fast.

I need to pick up a 250 for the missus...... She needs something to ride instead of being on the back of my Daytona.......

Honestly I don’t know how she rode pillion on the Daytona and my ZX-6R before that. I would be too scared and don’t have enough faith in people (or myself) to not fall off.

BTW, more than one problem my girl had when getting started with riding on the street can be attributed to the low power of the 250. It’s actually kinda tricky to ride for someone who isn’t familiar with bikes or manual cars. In order to be smooth you have to be kinda hard on it, otherwise it bucks and complains and stalls. I truly believe that if we started on something with just a smidge more power, like a 300, the overall experience would have been way more forgiving.

Fortunately the missus occasionally ride the Daytona, has her endorsement, and grew up on manuals. Jut gotta convince her we can spend the money.

That vinx grip makes all the difference. Much better when riding two up. No more pressing on me. The passenger is a part of the bike. Plus it clicks into place so it can be removed when riding solo.

That’s really solid advice for any bike.

I’m looking at alternatives cuz apparently they don’t sell it anymore? So far I’ve found a belt that goes around the rider’s waist and has loops there.

Our nanny had a CBR250R and drove it to my house a lot last summer. She’d get the Volvo wagon for the day with the kids and I took her bike to work. It’s a short ride with no speed limit above 35 the entire way. On a hot summer day, it was a really fun way to get to work and back - probably for her, too - and I could wring it out a little without ending up at double the speed limit. I hope she does that again this summer. For someone (me) who is comfortable on a motorcycle, but doesn’t own a bike at all, it was fun to tool around on.

That sucks. I really like mine.

I’ll trade you my grip for your bike!

Agreed, it is fun for someone who is comfortable on a bike. But for a beginner I don’t think it’s the best choice as I can attribute some of my girlfriend’s struggles to its low power. Gotta get those revs up before taking off, gotta take it up to 4/5k to shift smoothly, gotta be in the right gear at the right moment... it was a lot for a beginner. I didn’t have to worry about as much stuff when I was starting out on my Ninja 400R.

CBR, vinx grip. Totally fair trade. I’ll even throw in some used chewing gum. Only slightly used I should add.

Curious, how much did you put it up for? Always wanted a starter/commuter bike to putt around on since I used to love riding dirtbikes. Still have to get my moto license though.

I’m asking $2900 Canuck bucks, but will take $2500. I wrote a little guide with my recommendations about what’s a good first bike: http://derailedblog.com/my-first-motorcycle-part-1-getting-schooled

Although she was pretty good at it in the beginning, street riding simply wasn’t for her. Anxiety started to build and last year she didn’t go on a single ride. No point in paying so much for insurance on a bike that doesn’t get used.
