OK, so wrong color, and the mileage is silly, but this is cool.

Wow, that makes my old fire department truck look pretty rough, with 36,000 miles and lots of dings and dents, non-original paint, etc.

This is a sweet truck, though.

It is a sweet truck - I just hope the bidding doesn’t get crazy because of the mileage. These trucks were meant to be driven - I’d hate to be afraid to add mileage to it.

Somehow I don’t think it will get super crazy. I think there’s just a limited market for this specific kind of thing. It’s not really old enough to have real antique character, in my opinion. At the same time, I think the bidding might price out people like me, who just want a neat old truck that they can also use as a truck - it’s also maybe too nice for that - but then, people who are willing to spend $10k+ on an antique truck are probably going to look for something older. So, that puts me right back where I started.

I spent $7,000 on my ‘61 F100 (3 years ago) and it’s nowhere near as nice, but it is also a bit older and still has some residual 50's curvy styling cues, which is a huge part of the appeal to me.

This is a tough one to guess on price.

I don’t think it will get too crazy, but the Chevy square bodies have a cult following, and this thing is a time capsule (look at the underbody photos, it’s amazing!)

I’d be stunned if this went under $10k, and I’m not sure where it will end up. $20k wouldn’t shock me.

True, you’re probably in the ballpark.

You’re right though, it’s pretty hard to guess where this will end up. Ultra low mileage cars usually are.

That’s a pretty truck.

It is - and probably as close as you’ll get to showroom new here in 2018.

We must watch this one and see what price it fetches. My guess would be $7500.

And is 1975 the smog cutoff year in California? As in, no smog test on a ‘75? That could push this truck into ten grand territory. SO clean.

I’d say higher - -but I’m very clueless on these.

I’m definitely watching - these are gorgeous trucks IMHO, and bring back fond memories of my younger days...

Same. If it’s no smog test required in California, then it could fetch quite a bit more.

I’m in Illinois, so not too familiar with CA smog laws, but I’m pretty sure that ‘76's require smog, and 100% that ‘74's don’t- - but not sure which way the 1975's fall, tbh.

Oh, I missed this! Judging by the bids so far, the one we saw was indeed a decent price.

Biding is almost over, and it’s up to $18,750!

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah, I agree. This one here is really cool, but the mileage is stupid low- - to the point where I would feel bad adding to it.

I’d rather own the one we saw - - better color combo and no worries about the odometer.

Kinja'd!!! shop-teacher > WilliamsSW

Kinja'd!!!1

I dunno, 5900 to me is enough that I wouldn’t feel bad about adding some miles to it. It’s not like it will be worth any less if it had 7,900 miles on it, and I wouldn’t be driving it cross country or anything. Now if it was 590 miles, I wouldn’t want one of those.

I agree though, the one we saw is a better color combo. On the other hand, I like the shapelier front end of the early Squarebodies like this one better. I wouldn’t turn away either one!

Yeah, I think the round headlight trucks are the best looking ones, but I like them all.

If you really pushed me, I’d rather have a 2WD Scottsdale, because I’m not going to do anything with it that requires 4WD.

This one just hit the $20k mark - you pay a premium for that low mileage, that’s why I’d rather have one with 60k than 6k.

Honestly, I wouldn’t either. I’d never take a nice one out in the snow/salt.

No, no way - as you well know, these trucks don’t take kindly to salt.

Kinja'd!!!1

No, my dad bought his ‘79 new, and the first rust appeared after one winter. Which means the truck was like 6 months old, because he bought it in November of ‘78.

I wonder how the auction price in 2018 dollars compares to the sticker price in 1975 dollars.

Spring break?

Kinja'd!!! shop-teacher > Rusty Vandura - www.tinyurl.com/keepoppo

Kinja'd!!!0

That is a good question. My dad paid $7,900 for his new ‘79 Custom Deluxe K10, and that from ‘79 to now is $27, 094. That’s four years newer, but a 1/2 ton instead of 3/4, and it had a manual trans instead of a pricey autometic. By rough guestimate then, this truck sold for pretty close to its sticker price.

Just ended, first day back to the salt mines for me. I got sick Saturday, and felt like I’d been run over by a truck yesterday, so I’m only moving about 5/8 speed today. I didn’t want to be “that guy” and call in sick though.

Might do a wee bit of research on that.

Kinja'd!!! shop-teacher > WilliamsSW

Probably. Honestly, I’d rather have a “decent” one for under $10k, that I could use like a truck and not feel guilty in the least.
