I am replacing the clutch on my ‘69 corvette and while it’s out I figured I’d open the transmission and check if anything looked off. I’ve never rebuilt a transmission before so I don’t really know what I’m looking for. Everything looks okay to me but maybe someone more knowledgeable here can give me their opinion.
While I was wrenching I figured I’d check out what was up with my truck popping the taillight fuses every now and then. I think I found the issue. I replaced the switch and repinned the connections. Hopefully that fixes it for good.

Well, your transmission certainly has gears in it so, you know, that’s a plus.

Yeah, I had the same melted harness socket issue in my Mustang. Seems to be common among ’90s Fords. From what I’ve heard, it’s because Ford ran didn’t use a relay, and instead ran full headlamp power through those wires.
Some owners like to rewire the circuit with a relay in the engine compartment. Maybe I should have done that before installing a new socket...

Yea, that’s kind of dumb.

What’s the current state of it? Does it have issues shifting/holding gears? Does it leak?
Gearset looks good, engagement teeth look good. Synchros maybe not so much, but no sense in tearing down a trans that doesn’t need it.

It leaks a bit but other than that I wasn’t having any issues. The only thing that was happening was it wouldn’t completely engage 1st or 3rd sometimes completely. But that looks like it was due to the shifter only having one loose bolt connecting it to the transmission. So I don’t think the gears would fully engage when moving the shifter forward. Also, thanks for the link, a lot of good info there.

Yeah, step 1 is to get the shifter adjusted properly. If it doesn’t have issues I’d just fill it up and roll.
Actually, since it’s out, now’s the time to correct the speedo if it has non-stock gears or a different tire size.
