The new Toyota Crown coming out later this year. Hard to believe this and the Camry are made by the same company.

But after seeing that droopy face I think I prefer the older one

We have a Crown; it’s just called the Lexus LS.

GS, but yeah.

Ehhh, it’s like a Mercedes GLE Coupe turned into a sedan merged with a new Avalon face.

I never understood the Crown, like... its a lexus for people that don’t like the posh brand, but in Japan the Crown is considered a posh car and Toyota used to sell a v12 sedan there up until very few months ago...

Well, Lexus didn’t exist in Japan until 2005. The Crown and Aristo/GS were/are platform mates, and I think the post-JDM-Lexus Crown is geared more towards traditionalists.

All of this begs the question “how is this still a thing?”

Same reason we still have both Cadillac and Buick, with a healthy dose of Japanese traditionalism thrown in. Also, the Crown is like the S-class in that there are frequently taxi spec versions made.

I agree with Buick; but I mean.... Cadillac has some very interesting cars.... I wouldn’t be able to own one personally ( I don’t like their design) but from a sporting perspective they make very special cars!
Yeah, traditions are weird, how odd that Japan didn’t have Lexus until 13 years ago

Oh, I mean how both brands still exist together when they’re both upmarket GM brands.
And Acura still doesn’t exist in Japan, and I think most things sold as Infinitis are still sold as Nissans in Japan. The Skyline has the Infiniti logo on it, but is still referred to as a Skyline. The Japanese luxury brands came about in the 80s due to typical American badge snobbery, with Japanese cars at the time being mainly seen by Americans as economy cars, and the idea of a car with a Honda or Toyota or Nissan (or Mazda, who was going to follow suit but scrapped the plan) badge being considered upmarket as a bit farfetched.

EUNUS>>>>EVERYTHING.
Just went to Nissan Japan... checks out.
Yeah, badge snobbery seems to be a very North American issue.

I wish they’d gone through with it (although they would have called it Amati, not Eunos), because one of the planned cars for it was the Cosmo.
It’s funny that it is that way, and when I talk to non-North Americans about my TSX they’re always like “psh, it’s just an Accord”.

Yeah, but in the end the ILX is just a civic, except it’s better equipped and more L U X.
I hate Honda in Mexico, the Civic coupe? Only CVT
Civic Si? No.
2.0 Accord with stick? No
1.5 Accord? only CVT.
Goldwing? only the old one
TLX,
A spec? yes.
V6? Only!
AWD?!? NO!

I like the Avalon

True, but the TSX, unlike the ILX (or any Acuras anymore outside the RLX) was built in Japan, and just feels better made than a North American-built Accord.
That lineup is, uh, strange.
