Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Synthetic
Noticed this in the jug after doing an oil change on my Silverado. My funnel filter caught some. It’s goop chunks/blobs. Normal? What’s up Pennzoil?

Scary. I assume there was no evidence of tampering with the jug. I would be tempted to dump that oil for a fresh refill.

I use pennzoil all the time and have never seen such a thing. Are you certain the seal wasn’t broken when you got it?

“Pennzoil”
Well there’s yer problem

I remember hearing rumors a while back about Pennzoil being sludge-prone. I never put much faith in those rumors, but I always found myself buying other brands instead. This isn’t helping put my mind at ease.
Is there any chance that it’s been on the shelf a long time, or sat in extreme temperatures, or been opened, or something?

Possibly on the shelf. But I just bought it today. Seal/lid was uncracked

Lid seal wasn’t cracked

Then it’s unlikely that it was exposed to extreme temps, or humidity, etc. Huh. I guess you could check for a date code on the jug... Maybe it’s some old stock that the store neglected to rotate?

Oh good call I’ll check the date. I’d be alarmed if temperatures affected t since it needs to handle -30C to 100C in an engine.
I emailed Pennzoil. I wouldn’t expect this from Walmart brand oil let alone Pennzoil’s top shelf
I always used Mobil1 Syn in the past but switched to Penn Ultra Platinum because it was supposed to be the next sliced bread

it just all the ultra platinum that settles to the bottom...
(can’t say I’ve ever seen that before with any motor oil product - maybe tail of the batch goo? weird..)

I have seen it before. Not with the ultra, just the platinum. Got a 28qt ecobox and it had that mung.

Wow, I’ve used pennzoil for about half of my changes, both synthetic and conventional, never seen that before. Send them the pictures, maybe you’ll get a free oil change out of it.

They say that very hot or very cold ambient temperatures can still affect oil if it’s being stored for an extended period of time. I once found some old oil in my garage that must have been at least 25 years old. I don’t recall the brand, but there were some pale solidified flakes in it. Kinda looked like wax.

huh interesting. i guess sooner or later molecules bond or separate, or science and whatever..

That’s just the minimum requirement of the mandate that all oils must now contain a percentage of recycled oil.

“Pennzoil. We sludge, so you will invariably have to deal with what we started.”

Well I tried to get help on Bobistheoilguy Forums and got treated like it was YouTube comments. What’s the point of a forum if it isn’t helpful. Sheesh
