I took her to the vet yesterday, and while some good things were found, most of them weren’t great. The first thing, she is chipped. No one has contacted about the chip, and neither number really worked, so we will wait for further action. The further action is all that is currently wrong with her. I got her caught up on shots and such, but she has heartworms, super early on, so she can make a full recovery... but to the tune of $1200. On top of that, she needs spayed. So, a free dog is never a free dog.

One of the good things I found out, is that she is quite good around other people and animals.

our big ginger cat was a free cat, but he needed to be fixed and had a serious case of ear mites when we got him cause he was a barn kitten, but the money is always worth it!

I hear you, but it’s a small price for what doggos give in return.

Does the vet have pet insurance info? We don’t use it because we have a bit of emergency fund for stuff like that but we know a few friends with multiple dogs with health things going on where it has really helped.

Did they suggest how you should proceed? Is there some kind of transfer you can do to get your name registered to the chip? You may need to find the other people as much as it might suck.

Glad you caught the heartworm early. That can be a killer. Glad to see otherwise she has a clean bill of health.

That’s why we had to put my old dog down, so it was not the prognosis I wanted to hear.
