Been seeing this more often: a pan and tub within the same enclosure. No freestanding tub outside of the shower means no water on the floor. Less cleaning, more open space in the room, and just a crisper look.
But back to reality, this nice lady’s shower pan alone is the size of my only bathroom. Sad!

sheesh, just fully enclose the whole bathroom at that point

yeah if i ever win the lotto thats how my wife an i are designing our master bath, but with a bigger soaker tub
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:01 |

This does kinda make sense although I’d lose the goofy seat and put a bigger tub in there.

Finally. That tag gives me a reason to post this.

I’m getting a new bathroom, not like this one.

The seat is not there for you, it’s there for women who want to shave in the shower... Unless of course Klingon men shave their legs I guess, then it can be for you as well Mr. Worf.

oh nice... they have a comfy hangover shower chair :D
(i used to have that when i still lived with me parents as me dad was wheelchair bound... wasnt as fancy or anything... but damn a chair in the shower is a great thing when all you want to do is die and get it over with)

I like the shelf to hold product.
And the view of the rooftops of neighboring tightly packed mini mansions.

My wife who does shave her legs but is not Jadzia Dax would probably still want the bigger tub for lounging in.

Is the baked on water phobic glass protector for my new shower door worth it? It’s a $160 adder to the cost of the door.

My first thought as well.

Always always ALWAYS buy the protectant, totally worth it. They also come with a warranty. You would not believe the things I’ve seen. One year old doors in areas with hard water that are absolutely ruined.

To their credit when I was last here 3 months ago, they had a clear view of the valley. Someone bought the land behind them and put up 49 homes.

I’ve been working on a master bath remodel for the last six weeks. I removed a standard shower stall and soaker tub, converted the space into a 9' by 3' shower. I hope to be finished mid-April.

When I was stationed in Diego Garcia the barracks rooms had big showers like the bathrooms were designed with full tubs in mind. Lawn chairs and six packs were pretty common when showering.

Arent all bathroom enclosed when you think about it?

Fair enough... I’ll agree that bathtubs should be bigger.

Any glass partition, or just walk-in style onto a landing?
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:18 |

I want this. Completely tiled floor to ceiling, waterproof sockets, and a pressure washer hookup. Add a cartridge for whatever chemical you are cleaning with that day, and blast away. Would also need a few high power fans for venting. I might be slightly OCD haha
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:19 |

49 huh, so I am guessing a 5 acre lot?

Like this?
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:20 |

there will be a glass wall left and right. 6' tall, 34" wide each. In the middle between the two glass walls will be a 28" wide entry to the shower (no door)
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:21 |

Looks like less even. And of course they’re 1 million!
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:23 |

Nice. Consider springing for 1/2" thick glass instead of 3/8". Better product and less deflection (wobbling)
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:23 |

Bonus points for windows in enclosure, but away from shower. Two rentals I had years ago were a nightmare to clean due to windows in the shower.

3000 sq ft pressboard and plastic abode on a 3200 sq ft lot for seven figures, welcome home!
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:25 |

That’s a lot of glass to clean; only people who hire a cleaner would have this.

New construction can be like a new luxury car: the failures will be the *next* owners problem.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:27 |

Or you spring for the hydrophobic treatment. But yeah 3 times out of 4, there’s a cleaner.

FINE
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:31 |

I need it to be heavier duty with a few drains on the floor. Just picture whatever would work getting blasted with high pressure cleaner and water. Maybe 3 high pressure hose hookups in the wall, waterproof cabinets/fixtures/lights/etc. Almost industrial like a locker room, but with some nice added design touches to make it feel homey.
I literally just want to power-wash every surface of the bathroom, top to bottom every week. Keep that mildew and limescale at bay! It would be cheaper to get a cleaner ever week, but where is the fun in that!
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:31 |
|
I’d suggest getting a door. Showers that don’t have doors are way too drafty.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:33 |
|
That is huge you could fit a lot of male prostitues in there. It would be nice to not worry about water on the floor in front of the tub.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:34 |
|
I guess you should get solid slate instead of typical tile. That grout will wear out pretty quick!
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:35 |
|
I think that bathroom is the size of my living room
I do like that setup with the tub/shower/tile lounge chair
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:36 |

True, but he’d need to do more than that. He wants 6' tall panels meaning there is 2' minimum of open space above those panels. He needs something like this if keeping in more steam is what he wants :
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:39 |
|
I’ve been trying to figure out the best route for a bathroom for myself and my significant other. I refuse to spend several thousand on a bathtub yet want one than my 6’4” self can be fully in the water.
I definitely will go with a setup like this though.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:40 |
|
In my showering experiences/preferences, it’s not about keeping in steam so much as general heat. If the tops are open it’s fine, it’s when the glass wall isn’t completely enclosed with a door it’s just too drafty for me. One step out of the water, or as soon as it’s off I’m freezing and don’t like it.
I can’t wait until we get to remodeling our master.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:41 |

I don’t know about the tile and fixtures but the pressure washer thing would be n easy setup. Stick with the quick change nozzles so you can use it on yourself or for cleaning and have the temperature control thing located near bathroom.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:44 |
|
I was wondering about that. can you order 6 giant slabs of marble/granite/whatever is trendy?
Better yet, can the stone people just cut out the inside of a YUUUGE block? That way I don’t have any seams???
This is a lottoball winning plan, so might as well go all out haha

Build like a poultry or swine barn. They are regularly cleaned with heated high pressure washers(know that from experience).
![]() 03/23/2018 at 19:00 |

The real question is:
How do you keep those glass walls/doors clean?! Unless you clean them 5 times a week, they’ll have calc stains on them eventually. And it’s almost impossible to get them off.

Do people actually clean their own houses and mow their own lawns these days? I mean, aside from people with riding lawn mowers due to massive amounts of land/lawn. Our Roombas (Carl & Carla) do most of the vacuuming, with a quick clean once a week and a major cleaner visit once a month.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 20:15 |

Haha. I would use some kind of man-made glass material. Cheaper than the various stones and most stone is porous (like granite, and I hate real granite for this reason)...

What is that wavy seat like thing in there?
![]() 03/23/2018 at 20:18 |

I definitely like that the glass doesn’t go all the way up to the ceiling (fan location notwithstanding)! Too bad the marble tile just stops at the towel rack, though. Should’ve gone all the way over that remaining bit of wall, if you ask me..
Also, where the hell does one find those ladder-style towel racks?? I need one to finish my bathroom reno and can’t seem to find them anywhere...

They all died decades ago.
I do so little physical activity that I have to pay people to take me into their torture chamber and make me do stuff my ancestors used to do for free.
It’s a brave new world.

Does price increases expon after 1/2" inch? I was talking to a xontr about a deck rail project and the 1 1/4“ thick glass made their eyes practically pop out
![]() 03/23/2018 at 21:01 |

Either that, or squeegee it religiously after every shower forever (and it will still get nasty after awhile). CLR takes more elbow grease than I personally have to take care of bad calcium deposits on shower glass. Ymmv
![]() 03/23/2018 at 21:02 |

Yes. Anything past 1/2" is insane.

It’s a rental, so not gonna happen. But good to know it exists (and helps a lot).

Just keep a squeegee in the shower and wipe it down when you’re done.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 22:05 |

That’s way too much space for a shower. It’s sure to be cold in there even with a nice hot shower going.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 22:24 |

It’s a wavy seat. Used for shaving and display only. Maybe.

Damn, it’s working for me...
Perhaps a bit out of left field, but there’s this glass cleaner I use that’s straight out of detailers’ arsenals: Stoner Invisible Glass. I’ve used it on both car and house windows, and it works wonders! Perhaps it’s worth a shot for shower glass too?

I bought 1/2" glass walls. If I don’t like the opening I can always add a door easily enough. I got quotes for floor to ceiling walls with a door, $7k. I bought the two walls for $488
