ND Miata Club RF
Jaaaaaaaaaaag XF 35t AWD Portfolio
2016 M4
2008 911 S Cab
2013 Boxster S
Damn that was a lot of fun. Only the Jaaag was an auto.

The M4 is fun with the M-DCT.
Easily one of my favorite cars to drive ever.

I liked the Porsches better, but the M4 was fantastic too.
I suspect the M4 is better with that DCT. The one I drove was a manual.

Fine.
When I pick up my Arctic Metallic F80 M3, I’m only taking E90M3.
I see how it is.

I drove a Competition Pack F83 M4 Convertible and it was life changing.
I don’t care what anyone says. The F80s are the best M3s since the E36.

That was my first time behind the wheel of any M car, so I can’t compare it.
I’m kind of a sucker for NA noises and responsiveness, which the Porsches are brilliant at.

So...which one are you buying?
![]() 03/23/2018 at 16:36 |

We expect full detailed reviews of each car by 10am tomorrow.

I’m lazy AMA mode right now but will post more later

Current status is plotting ways to convince my wife that the Boxster would be a great purchase.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 16:41 |

I have tried that tactic and failed many times. Good Luck!

She has actually given me the ok to get a fun car. Issue is timing though, and this is probably more than she’s thinking.
But damn I loved that car.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 16:48 |

Haha. 1 question then. If you had to choose one of them to drive everyday, which would it be?
![]() 03/23/2018 at 16:49 |
|
Only I can do that. Although I would need to be drunk while writing them for best results.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 16:51 |
|
Oh, I misunderstood. I meant convincing your wife to get herself a fun car that you can also steal every now and then LOL
![]() 03/23/2018 at 16:55 |
|
Just as long as your aren’t drunk while driving them too. Also wait... only you can write reviews of the cars WilliamsSW drives? Is there like a telekinetic link between you two?
![]() 03/23/2018 at 16:59 |
|
No, I keep those two activities separate. And I mean I can generally knock out semi-detailed reviews pretty quickly.

Somebody played hooky today. Of those, I’ve only driven the ND. It’s a blast.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:17 |
|
What was the ND like? Did you lower and raise the roof a bunch of times, just to see the cool mechanics? I know I would.
Youtoob reviews say the non-club suspension is super soft - what was your impression?
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:24 |
|
The ND was a lot of fun. The one I drove was a Club, so I can’t comment on the non-club suspension, but I thought that the Club struck a nice balance, firm but not jarring, still a decent amount of body roll. A car that you can explore the limits of without driving like a madman.
Shifter action was very short, clutch felt great, steering and suspension gave plenty of feedback, etc - duh it’s a Miata.
What impressed me was the engine - it’s got plenty of power, IMHO, and I like the noises it makes.
I actually did not touch the roof, believe it or not. I’m interested in the car, but I would buy a roadster, not the RF. The dealer only had 3 Miatas, and the other two were automatics (sad_trombone.wav).
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:27 |
|
You are correct - I’ve been really busy working on the sale of my company, and bids were due yesterday. The PE firm that owns us is processing all of that, so it’s been super quiet at work the last two days, and I took advantage of it.
Every single one of the cars I drove was a lot of fun - but some pretty different characters, obviously. I loved the Porsches the most, but damn the Miata put a big grin on my face, too.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:28 |

Tough question because I have a child - which makes the 2 seaters a non-starter for DD duty. But I’d sure love to drive the Boxster every day. 2nd choice would be the 997.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:29 |

yeah I’m curious as to how this works - is it like a Being John Malkovich thing?
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:29 |

Except that she would want an automatic! ! ! :)
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:36 |

Gotcha, thanks! I need to test drive one.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:38 |

I guarantee it will put a big smile on your face.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:42 |

How can you say that after saying you’d only roadtrip with E90M3... now he wouldn’t want to roadtrip with you
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:46 |
|
To be fair, nobody would want to road trip with me anyway.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:57 |

Impressive. Treat them like wine tastings... compare them to obscure things people can only imagine and no one can disagree with you.

The boxer has a trunk. Problem solved!
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:11 |

Eh, you deserved it.
I’d love to try out a Boxster. I’ve never driven an XF, but I got to ride in haveacarortwoorthree’s last Fall. I’ve never been in a Porsche of any kind.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:28 |

I’m cool with it. Florida Oppos, UNITE!
![]() 03/23/2018 at 21:33 |

Today was the first time I have ever driven:
Jaaaaaaaaag
Porsche
M car
Rear engine car
Mid engine car
All of it.
The boxster was brilliant. I’m in love.

You’re telling me to put my kid in the frunk?
![]() 03/24/2018 at 21:32 |

They would love it! You could create a nice safe womb like environment that would aid in nurturing your child.
![]() 03/25/2018 at 00:24 |
|
Yes, and I’ll just tell my wife it’s because safety right?
![]() 03/25/2018 at 09:28 |
|
She’ll understand
![]() 03/27/2018 at 15:07 |
|
So... get some good bids? Will you be buying something soon? =)
![]() 03/27/2018 at 15:26 |
|
Well, yes, I’ll definitely be buying at least 1 something in the next couple of months.
I have a leased GS350 that goes back at the end of May, which needs to be replaced with a roomy sedan/wagon.
In addition to that, my wife has given the OK to ‘get my dream car’, which would replace my old E46 convertible. After last Friday, I REALLY want a 981 Boxster S - but that’s definitely more $ than my wife had in mind for that car.
So, I’m contemplating either a) get a nice sedan to replace the Lexus and hold off for a while on the dream car; or b) get a much cheaper sedan (used) and put the saved monies towards the Boxster.
![]() 03/27/2018 at 15:34 |
|
Panamera Gran Turismo + Boxster S (used, of course)
Tell your beloved that it’s just money. =)
![]() 03/27/2018 at 15:38 |
|
LOL, no chance of that! The Boxster S that I drove was $50k - which seems to be a fair price for a 2013, 15k mile CPO 6-speed car - which came on 20" wheels AND had a spare set of 19's (also Porsche wheels) with it.
If I were to do that, I might still be able to swing a W212 Benz, circa 2014.
![]() 03/27/2018 at 15:40 |
|
Fun to dream. I keep looking at 981 Cayman S listings, but there’s no way I could own a two seater for at least another 5 years.
![]() 03/27/2018 at 15:45 |
|
Have you driven one? They’re a riot. Ridiculous torque at any RPM, sweet mechanical noises, and a brilliant, balanced chassis.
And in the hour before I drove the 981, I drove an M4 and a 997 S Cab, so it’s not like I hadn’t driven a fun car in a while.
![]() 03/27/2018 at 15:48 |
|
I’ve driven a (pretty beat) 987 Cayman S manual and a very nice 987 Boxster S PDK (my boss’). Haven’t sampled the 981 yet, but looking forward to that day.
![]() 03/27/2018 at 16:06 |
|
I should probably drive a 987 S, there’s enough of a price drop there that I might be able to convince her...
![]() 03/27/2018 at 16:54 |
|
I like the way you think. Also, good old-fashioned hydraulic steering rack. Just shoot for an ‘09+ with no IMS.
![]() 03/27/2018 at 17:07 |
|
Yeah, it would have to be an ‘09-’12, no IMS, a little better looking with the mid-cycle refresh, and a bit more power, too.
Granted, I’ve been driving mostly electric PS cars for a while, but the steering in the 981 was great (same true for the Miata).
![]() 03/27/2018 at 17:15 |

Yeah, but nothing like being able to really feel the road surface when you’re doing little corrections mid-corner near the limit!
