I bought something used, manual, and ITALIAN !
Disregard the beautiful Alfa Montreal in the lead image and you are quite welcome for the click-baity headline.
What I did do was buy a 2002 Aprilia SL1000 Falco
I rented a lovely 2018 Chevy Silverado from Enterprise and drove 542 miles and took 11 hours 51 minutes to buy this amazing vehicle.
She has been ridden before and dropped. As you can see by the aftermarket headlamp, but the forks and the frame were all straight. So for $1650 I was able to get an Italian street bike with a 60 degree water cooled V-Twin producing 118 hp @ 9250 and 70.5 lb-ft @7000 and only 18,614 miles on the clock.
I did go against the advice of resident Moto guru
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
and bought Italian. All I need to do is a few services and some TLC and she will be a good bike for the season. The tires are even practically new and nice tires at that.
Here are some photos and DOTS from the trip
TRAFFIC
This was a Lime GReen Targa.... what do i win for worst photo ever?
And apparently Kinja sideways images that will probably flip when I hit publish... Cause Kinja
I am super excited to have a bike again! I am trying not to freak out while sitting here. I own a fucking motorcycle!

$1650? Damn. Where? I’m casually shopping for something similar to steal the drivetrain from for a project.

Neither did I until I thought about it. There is me, you, AMGtech, Bobinthemountains, and I think one more. We will sway Peter to the proper v-twin sooner or later, he can’t resist the siren song forever...

Find me a ducati that will hold up to the abuse my suzuki does first...
55K km a year did a number on my poor little SV
![]() 03/23/2018 at 14:00 |
|
Well maybe don’t abuse your damn bikes. Where is Sarah Mclachlan when you need her?
![]() 03/23/2018 at 14:00 |

I don’t think most people realize how long of a state California is. 500 mile round trip from SLO to Long beach? That’s like Florida to Maine and back or something, I’m talking out my ass.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 14:03 |
|
I dont abuse it. I use it.
difference.
but yea, I put on stupid KM on my rides.

More like slightly more than Jacksonville, FL to Jacksonville, NC
![]() 03/23/2018 at 14:07 |

nah, lol

Nice grab!!
![]() 03/23/2018 at 14:44 |

True, I prefer a bike to be ridden than be babies. I know I am going to put a lot of miles on my Falco... Now to just slowly get factory fairings back on her
![]() 03/23/2018 at 14:46 |

Thanks, now with both have italians in need of service XD
![]() 03/23/2018 at 14:49 |

I have an RSV4 as well. It’s double the
lack of reliability
fun!
![]() 03/23/2018 at 14:51 |
|
Sweet! You need an SC Project exhaust now, if you can get one for it. Aprilias sound best with them, really opens them up.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 14:54 |
|
We need more roadster content.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 14:55 |
|
thats not a manual! its a footial
![]() 03/23/2018 at 15:02 |
|
Well as soon as you blow 2 spark plugs you will be welcome in our exclusive members only area, where we double fist only the most expensive pino and look down on other motorcyclists (and their lack of crippling dept to the mechanic...)
I kid though, supper jealous. I am dying to find out how the new v4 panigale and rsv4 compare. I have yet to score a ride on either. I never realized how many Italian bikes we have here! Now if we can just find a moto guzzi and an mv
![]() 03/23/2018 at 15:12 |
|
When they are right, they are really right! When they are wrong, well.. Let’s just not talk about that. LMAO
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:18 |
|
Gotta find something to do while waiting for parts to be shipped from Italy. Talking down on the plebeians and their reliable mainstream brands is a good start.
I would not recommend riding an RSV4 if you do not intend to purchase one, and would not recommend purchasing one if you do not intend to use it for track duty. I assume that the new Panigale V4 is similar, and you can’t really go wrong with either.

Lets not and pretend they never are
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:35 |

.... no
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:36 |
|
TBH, I am thinking about putting glasspacks on
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:42 |

Make sure you get Cherry Bombs.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 17:44 |

With the red rear wheel and the fact they are $26 each compared to $600+ for bike exhaust that is where I was planning on going.
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:09 |
|
I’m OK with this plan
![]() 03/23/2018 at 18:34 |
|
Very cool!
Also, if you drive an air cooled porsche in the rain, does that make it water cooled?
![]() 03/23/2018 at 19:12 |
|
Maybe twin cooled?
![]() 03/23/2018 at 19:12 |
|
I thought you would be
![]() 03/23/2018 at 20:33 |
|
It’s only funny because it’s true!! Waiting for parts sucks!
I would live to ride a tuono as I can’t quite swing track days at the moment. I prefer slightly more upright bikes for sure over pure sport bikes
![]() 03/24/2018 at 08:10 |

congrats!
