I always have the best of intentions in terms of posting to Oppo, but never seem to follow through. Anyway, I have car news. I still have the LEAF. I still have the 944. And I now have a new daily:

Kinja'd!!!

Sorry for the crap pic, but I just ran out to the garage to snap it. Yes, it’s the S trim with DSG and a 2017, but at less than $20k for a brand new GTI, I couldn’t pass it up.

Compared to the LEAF and the 944, it’s fast.

Yeah, they seemed to have a lot of them left. I guess the S wasn’t that popular what with not having the performance pack. I could have gotten a base Focus ST for about the same money (can’t give those away either), but I didn’t feel like the GTI was trying to kill me.

Nice! Congratulations. I had a MK7 GTI as well. I did all kinds of mods to it but ended up selling it when I bought my M2. That 2.0 is a very capable engine.

As an ex DSM owner (kinda). I almost miss having a car that is trying to kill me. Then I use my functional exterior door handle, turn on my heated seats, and plug my phone into my working radio and forget about it.

Amen. The ST doesn’t have an “off” button. It’s like an eager puppy who wants to play Frisbee 24/7. I knew that would get old in Atlanta traffic.

Yeah, the local dealer had 11 in stock. They were offering $8,000 off sticker or -24%. They already had ‘18s in stock. This was about four weeks ago.

Sweet mother of Jesus! That’s a hard deal to pass. Did the 18’s interest you at all with the extended warranty

One of us. One of us.

I’ve got a 16 SE 6MT with the S plaid cloth seats. Long story, but I really love those seats.

What do you mean by that, out of curiosity? I daily a FoST and I’ve never felt like that. It does well in traffic surprisingly, the small turbo will get ya if you aren’t completely careful (dat minimal lag though) however it’s a pretty easy car to drive.

Maybe I baby it too much.

Don’t get me wrong. I loved the ST (always have) and were I younger, I could have lived with the torque steer, instant boost and unforgiving suspension. But the GTI seems to do a better job of having a split personality like we ask of our cars these days. Guess I am going soft.

I felt the exact same way as I’m sure lots of others have too, although I once mistakenly attributed that too turbo lag in the gti and was immediately lit up by my VW bro boss who overheard about how VWs are amazing and have no turbo lag at all and that’s just the torque curve and etc etc etc.

Hmm, I’ve never really had torque steer issues. Maybe I’m not pushing it hard enough, lol. Suspension takes some getting used to for sure. But it has convinced me that once it’s time to move on, I’ll get a second manual, rwd fun car and the main will be something a little softer, something I’d call a “mile eater”. Just look at this beauty though! It will be hard to get rid of, if I ever do. It might just be a 3 car stable.
