Unfortunately I’m here on business, not pleasure. The amount of new construction here is quite a surprise. Pretty awesome view at this house, though.
It was a long, boring 3.5 hour drive here. I’ll probably work another 3 hours and head back. I wasn’t crazy about this project at first, but the house is impressive and novelty is breaking up my usual mundane routine. Except my phone is still blowing up with emails, texts, and calls. Leave me in peace, dammit!

The greater Wenatchee metroplex is becoming affluent boomer retiree heaven.

I’m pretty sure that one of these pictures is pointing in the general direction of my wife’s aunt & uncle’s “cabin” (really, a 4500 sq/ft house that’s worth more than our house, which boggles the mind...baby boomers...).
What gulch is that overlooking?

Chelan winery just down from where you are has awesome ribs. Grab some to go for the drive back!

Looks picturesque but is it really that brown over there or is it the camera?

Any chandeliers to report?

I was looking at vacation homes, as I am often apt to do; but I noticed homes starting at 600-900k in suncadia (Cle Elum) and I said “fuck it”. I like to think i’m pretty well off, but there’s no way anything past the east of the cascades is worth that much. This is riverside and Temecula all over again.

It’s March, it takes some time for things to green up. Plus it looks like some farmland which is just dirt.

On an episode of Frasier they act like Chelan, which they pronounced Chelawn, was some kind of ultra fancy resort outside of Seattle. That might have been prescient.

I’m used to seeing our hills and valleys already pretty green here.
I suppose your climate while equally as wet is colder.

It’s actually fairly dry since Chelan sits in the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains. I just looked it up and they get 11" (28cm) of precipitation a year which is a little less than where I live which is a couple hours east of there.

Where did the sun go and what did you do with it?

I’m wrong, but close. Their place is a couple miles further along Highway 150.
Actually, one might still be pointing in the right direction...

Just say no to those suncadia communities.

I think they’re trying to sell to ex-Californians who think it’s a good deal. I assume it’s totally crap there?

East side of the Cascades is in a rain shadow of the mountains. Chelan is very dry, as is most of Eastern WA almost all the way to Spokane (the only spot on that side that gets much precipitation). You might be surprised to learn that it’s a desert all the way into southern Canada (the only desert in Canada, to my knowledge).
Aerial view of WA: https://www.google.com/maps/@47.5666978,-123.2958391,457137m/data=!3m1!1e3
Chelan is north-central just east of the snow capped mountains in the middle.

The west/wet side of the Cascades in the PNW possesses a climate that is extremely similar to the UK and Ireland...
I can’t think of anywhere in Europe with a similar climate to the region east of the Cascades...

That’s hilarious based on the era, but not entirely inaccurate now. It still has a lot of apple orchards and migrant farm workers...

I had to jump back in the truck and get over the pass before the snow got worse. Just started dumping on Stevens right at noon. Not the most pleasant drive back.

I bet. I’ve done the drive to Chelan and back in the snow and it can be harrowing.

Yeah I was the only RWD-only vehicle I saw going either direction over the pass...
