I’m planing on going to a Land O’ Lakes SCCA RallyX Even on April 7th. Now that I have a safe, running car that doesn’t leak fluids the next thing I needed was a helmet. And that part is did. I just ordered an HJC CL17. It’s an Sa2015 rather helmet and I got it on sale for 92 bucks shipped. I decided to go face so that it’ll be a suitable motorcycle and ATV helmet as well. I don’t mind the design either. I wanted something more classic looking, in all white or all orange, but at this isn’t covered in skulls, or camp.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The best thing I need is an FRS radio. Currently shopping for one. Also on the check list are some Rally armor mud flaps for style, and I think that’s it.

Hopefully. If this one doesn’t fit I won’t have time to send it back and get something else. But I don’t have a local place to buy helmets except the 40 dollar ones at L&M:

yea. mine was simply too small. I ended up buying a RPHA 10 and that fits me pretty good.

I actually bought mine a bit too big so hopefully it’ll be good. My head is a bit too big for a small and a bit to small for a medium according to their chart. So I got a medium

Helmet sizes can be strange. I bought a large because the medium I tried was too loose.

Lol what

That was my thought too. Apparently with the HJC Motorsport helmet I bought the small and medium share a shell and the large and XL helmets share a larger shell. Apparently the larger shell with more foam fit my head better and more snugly than the smaller shell with less foam which moved around on my head a bit much for my liking.

Are you positive this is a SA2015 auto helmet and not a Snell motorcycle helmet? It doesn’t appear this would be usable for Rally X.

It was strange and I have learned to always try the helmets on before buying.

Revzilla has it listed as one, but according to HJC it’s Snell m2015. But the info page for this event says that’s an acceptable rating as well.

You’re in luck then. I was under the assumption SCCA events had dropped using M rated helmets the past couple years. It must be region based then. The more you know!

Hmm maybe I need to double check in the morning.

I checked the SCCA LOL home site and it says Snell rated 2005 or newer with no mention of SA vs M. This may only apply to Rallycross maybe for higher speed events helmet regulations are more strict.

I am going to have to check if my helmet is legal. I got the mud flaps already! What’s a FRS radio?

Also what’s your source for all the info on the rally?

You’ll be good either way with the snell rating. SA rating is only required for road racing, and an M rating should suffice for any other SCCA activity. The difference between them is an SA rating involves a roll bar impact test and flame retardant fabrics and paint.

I found it on Land O lakes’ FB Page. And Motorsportsreg.com https://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/event.requirements/uidEvent/7FEE0C06-A65A-BCAA-0EF6A764FBA081D0

FRS radio is just a standardized Walkie talkie.
