Unfortunately as some of you have seen, we lost my dog Asia last week. She was my best friend, and while it seems a bit quick to get another dog, some things just seem to happen. My Mom got to work this morning, and her co worker mentioned that someone dumped a dog at their house. She is young and has recently had puppies, but otherwise seems healthy. Given the area, she likely was bred then dumped. If I don’t take it, she is going to the pound. So, I guess I’m going to meet her tomorrow.

Sometimes things just play out this way. If you decide it is too soon for you to pick up another dog I am sure there is a rescue in your area who would be happy to find her a good home.

It’s kind of a touchy subject, since it’s probably too soon, but I also mentally need a dog.

F150 I guess, it’s not my pic, it is from my mom’s coworker.

I totally get it. I lost my dogs in 2016 and it took me a little while to warm up to my parents new dog when we picked him up last summer. I’m just giving you a gentle reminder that there are better options than the pound if you decide its not going to work just yet.

Oh okay, thank you. It was off topic, but I was really confused looking at it.

I’ve literally never not had a dog, and as someone with anxiety, they are super calming to have around. I’m struggling to function without one.

I can definitely understand that you’d feel torn about this, but just remember that you aren’t replacing Asia. No dog ever will. But it sounds like you’ve got a great opportunity to help out a dog that really needs it. I hope that you two hit it off when you meet.

I hope so, too! They say she is a bit skiddish, but isn’t aggressive at all. It’s pretty typical of an abandoned dog.

After 3 years in college I needed up getting myself a greyhound. Best decision and helped me so much as my family had always had dogs. Like you said, sometimes thing just fall in place. You never get a dog to replace another, but you definitely get another because you support each other.

Sounds like she has dropped into your life at just the right time.

I’d think of it more as divine intervention, or luck. While you may have lost your dog, finding a stray is not a super common occurrence so maybe it’s for the best.

I’ve told the story here before, but my current dog wandered out of the rain and into my life only a few weeks before I was moving from NC to PA. It was certainly not the ideal time to adopt a dog, but in a way it was. I’ve got no regrets.

My wife and I discovered long ago that the best way to help get over the loss of a pet is to adopt a new one. You aren’t forgetting about the pet that passed, you just now have the ability to save another one.

After living with dogs most of my life it’s just so empty in the house without one. Your former dog won’t be sad they were replaced. Because no one can replace them.

Though the other dog can’t and won’t replace Asia. It sounds like you’ve both got an opportunity to help each other.

I hope the meeting goes well for you both.

Oddly coincidental - a running buddy recently lost her older dog to cancer, and less than a week later a mutual friend found a dumped dog. She’s just fostering it for now (it’s a little yapper and she prefers big dogs) but it’s helped her and her remaining dog so much. Plus little dog has a safe home and is getting some badly needed training.
