The rear end made some strange noises.
I was informed that said noises were from a turbo helping the car make about 475HP at the wheels and a rear end which has been reworked a bit to help put it all down with ease. There was a twin plate clutch involved too, which was a bit tricky at first (because it acts like a normal clutch for the first ~40% then immediately jumps to full engagement), but once I figured that out and got going, the going was very, very quick. I only did a few quick highway loops with the owner so I don’t have a whole lot to comment on, but I can at least confirm that this sort of combination is just about the right amount of silly.

My rear end makes some weird noises too but I just accept it.

Also, how’s that turbo lag with the turbo and engine on opposite ends of the car?

Best color too. Can’t imagine having much traction to work with but I bet it’s good fun.

It’s not often that a curb can take out a turbo. I saw one of those setups in a car magazine a while back and always wondered how it would drive.

Not bad, actually. I’d estimate just a hair more lag than my Outback XT, which is to say it’s noticeable, but still nowhere near enough to feel annoying or unpredictable/upsetting. I suspect the turbo being of a reasonable size helps here as well.

I always liked those SS butts. The Z28 looks far too similar to the V6.

That turbo wouldn’t last 2 minutes on Detroit roads. That’s like what, 2 inches of ground clearance?

I can at least say it handled starting from a 2nd gear roll w/ quick shifts up into 3rd without issue, but I’d bet launching from a stop (which we didn’t do) would likely run into some difficulties without some better rubber.

I kinda wondered about that as well, and now I’m wishing I did measure for curiosity’s sake. I have enough problems as it is dodging roadkill with my lowered NC (~4" of ground clearance) and the turbo here looked like it sat even lower.

This one felt a bit more livable than I was expecting. Clutch aside, it just drove like a warmed-over muscle car with some minor turbo lag. Between this and what I’ve read of some other rear-mount turbo kits in other cars I’m more familiar with, it seems like a perfectly reasonable way to handle forced induction, but I too would be a bit worried about how low it sits for some cars.
