Oppomeet Wales is imminent. We need a few competitions

Besides driving for 5 days we will need a few little competitions. Like who burns most fuel, who burns the least, who has the first breakdown, and more. Prizes: local beers we bring from home. Who has an additional idea for a challenge?

All of this should be in good fun, not too hard to achieve, maybe a little tongue in cheek and obviously legal. Nothing related to driving fast, except on a kart track.

Additional info: 15+ people from at least 6 dfferent nationalities; American, Belgian, British, Dutch, French and German.

Well I try to go on rallies in California but work always seems to get in the way! I used to do classic Vespa/Lambretta etc.. scooter rallies in Hawaii, yes Hawaii, where I’m from. It was easy to deal with breakdowns because someone’s significant other could just bring a pickup and you can get a couple of them in a truck if you have to! Yes we tried to be Euro in Hawaii, there are a lot of exotics hidden around in the aloha state actually. I met a guy that worked for Pan Am and had cars flown in sometimes.

How would you decide which car is most or least ‘oppo’? Should we vote among ourselves, should we create a poll on Oppo? Something else?

You could have a photo challenge of some sort enroute to the meet. As in who takes the best photo of their ride on the way to the event. This is HUGELY subjective but it would be awesome for posting to Oppo and holding a vote to involve more people who arent there. Along those lines, anything that can involve the general Oppo populace interactively with the meet would generate awareness and future participation.

That’s a very good point! I think I’ll create a little poll for every one of the 5 days.

We are at 15+ people now, slightly down from the Nürburgring meet a year ago (which was 19 iirc). The more the merrier I guess. It really shouldn’t be too expensive either, although it does always cost time. There will be something at Le Mans and/or the Nürburgring this year as well.

Maybe “Most Elaborate/Particular Requirements”, “Quirkiest Ride”, or similar. The winner could be something like, “Insert key, but back off a bit and cant it downward before turning to unlock door. Turn ignition key to ‘On’, but let fuel pump run for 5 seconds before turning to ‘start’. Never downshift from 5th to 4th, just wait for 3rd. Keep clutch in on shutdown, or put it in neutral to allow for excessive run-on.” Or even, “Keep palm forward on manual crank start and pull forward to avoid hand-crank backlash breaking hand/arm.” Depending on vintage of rides showing up.
