A brace of Alfa 156s and a Renault Vel Satis. How much more exciting can life become?
I haven’t seen a Vel Satis for ages, because rare new and because large cars take a trip to the crusher early in comparison to smaller ones.

There still seem to be a lot of 156s around over there, eh? They can’t have been too unreliable?

Other than the paddleshift ones (“Let’s take something that’s unreliable on this Ferrari, do some cost-cutting, and fit it to an everyday car!”... uh. yup), they’re not unreliable as such.
It’s just wear and tear stuff doesn’t last that long (wishbone bushes every 60k-ish, 36k mile cambelt intervals, etc.), so there were loads of them around absolutely dirt cheap (As in, pretty much mint condition but due a cambelt change soon, £500, kind of thing ) a couple of years back. They were pretty successful, so there were a lot of them about but they’re starting to thin out a bit now, as people scrap them over small things because routine maintenance counts as “But it’s more than the car’s worth to get fixed!”.

I don’t see very many any more. Never that common though. The 159 that followed wasn’t a great success and was canned earlier than expected.

Same as the Vel Satis then.
