This Mercedes-AMG E63s is pretty much how I’d option one. Boring but sinister black paint, subtle wheels, and a complete and total lack of carbon fiber accents. Debadge it and only car people would be able to tell the difference between this and a normal black E-Class.

The interior is truly what makes this car stand apart from most E63's. It’s tan, not black, and it has wood trim, not the tacky carbon fiber. This is a midsize luxury sedan that weights over 2 tons, no amount of carbon fiber is going to convince me it’s some sports car. Plus the options this car has almost all ones I’d want: AMG Performance exhaust, Panorama sunroof, massaging seats, heated rear seats, rear side airbags, the AMG Premium package, and the Warmth and Comfort package.

Anyone have $116,935 they want to give me?

If you hadn’t noticed, I have a thing for black luxury sedans.

Plus it’d round out the trifecta (FWD, RWD, AWD and 4, 6, and 8 cylinders)

exactly, it’s designed to go extremely fast in a straight line and can handle a back road well, but not pretending to be some track racer.

in America (overseas its sold as a Honda Accord, yes) it’s sold as an Acura, a premium/luxury car. But it’s certainly nicer than “normal” small cars, so I’d say it’s at least premium if not full out luxury (even if it was similarly priced, better equipped, and as quick as the competition from Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Volvo, etc)

I am sure modern day Mercedes are great. As someone who got burned (roasted really) by my old Daimler Chrysler era C class back in the day I won’t touch it with a 10 foot pole. But one of my biggest peeves of modern Mercedes cars is the design. I HATE the mandatory “sporty grill” on the E and C class. What happened to subtlety? What happened to the era when your W124 E500 can kill most cars on the drag strip and still look like a E200 German taxi? Why must a Sedan get a dinner plate sized 3 point star?

To be fair, non-car people couldn’t tell the difference between a Chrysler 200 and a Mercedes E-Class. My mom and my brothers routinely say, I saw a really nice looking car today, it looked like a luxury or sports car. Me: “oh really what was the brand”, Mom: “I’m not sure, it was a really pretty blue color”, Me: “two doors or four?”. Mom: “I’m not sure, it was really new and kinda boxy”.

I don’t blame them, it’s like if I was trying to describe somebody’s jacket to my mom with out any knowledge of clothing. It’s always hilarious and I get a kick out of trying to find out what car they saw by the description. It’s usually a combination of asking the right questions and showing them pictures of various ideas.

it’s a sporty sedan, but not a sports car. It weighs more than 2 tons. It certainly can go fast and corner better than it has any right to, but it’s not designed to be a track king, if that makes sense
