Heading to work on my Ducati Monster, about to get on the 405 onramp and a cop pops out from behind me... Thought I would get a ticket for my fender eliminator or integrated tail-light.

They’re used to hooligans riding those things like crazy people. If you’re riding safely, not too many occifers are gonna want to ticket you.

I drove into Shop Rite once and the cop near the entrance followed me across the lot... me trying to be all non-chalant... turned out he was a former S2000 owner

CHP has always been pro-motorcycles. They are also the defenders of lane splitting and now the official care takers of California’s now official legal lane splitting laws.

A few times in the last 30 years people have sought to end lane splitting, the CHP each time came in and squashed it.

If you ever DO get pulled over, just show the cop this video as proof you should not get a ticket

This is a great video. Random, semi-similar story: I got pulled over in my M3 at a speed trap on a major arterial street a couple years ago, just going 5-10 over along with the rest of traffic (honestly not knowing how low the real speed limit was). Did the usual things—quietly shit myself, turned off the car, rolled down the window, put my key on the roof. Cop comes up and says, completely serious:

“Hey, thanks for showing me your keys. Some jackass tried to run on me last month, so I appreciate it. If you’d taken off in this thing, I never would have caught you.” Then he burst out laughing and talked cars for a couple minutes.

I wonder about the logic behind a fender eliminator/tailchop/tail tidy etc. being deemed illegal by our all-knowing high accountability authorities. Does the clunky stock setup actually provide benefit? Or is it something arcane and asinine like historic USDM lighting standards?

The music editing just is the cherry on top of the sundae wonderfulness of the video.

I believe it’s all Federal lighting standards.

The separation of the turn signals from the brake light makes sense (on the stock setup), but it’s easy to interpret the direction of the turn signal on the integrated light.

One of the first things to do on a bike in my opinion is clean up the tail. I’ve never heard of anyone locally having an issue with it, but that might just be luck.

I see no hazards.

Also, car’s need to see your intended directions from far away and those lights are too close together to make out from an acceptable distance. Imho.... I see many people using those and to me it’s not enough. I like integrating the front lights to the mirrors (like the Multistrada) or to the faring (like the K1600) but the rears are safer with a bit more distance, specially for the hazard lights to work in certain lighting conditions. The bmw leds work quite well and they don’t look preposterous in size (quite sleek!)

Yeah, I’ve been looking for a stock tail fender for quite some time now. You’d think there’d be tons lying around but for monsters not so much.
