Year 8: Mayor Daley re-elected, bulldozes the whole thing at midnight!

ANOTHER $8.5 billion? I think the runway reconfiguration was ~$7B. I guess it’s time to throw money at the terminals...

Grrrrr, that still makes my blood boil...

Hell they are tearing down terminal two all together.
(Which is very good, T2 is such a depressing place)

T2 is awful, and has been for years. T1 has been leaking since it was built, and T3 (the one I use) is meh.
Terminal 5 is actually pretty nice, that’s the only one.

Yeah I flip-flop between the three depending on where I’m going.
Even the best Chicago of what terminals have to offer come off as meh compared to what other airports have.

i mean northerly island is a pretty nice place though. i saw rise against there a few years ago and and a few country shows and the concert venue is nice. i feel like it put that island to better use to more people than meigs ever did

I remember 25-30 years ago when I was a kid and thought O’Hare was all futuristic and cool. I would usually fly there out of DCA (NO I’M NOT GOING TO CALL IT FUCKING REAGAN) to visit my mom’s parents in Chicago and this was long before the new terminal at DCA had been built. The old one was/is very 60s in architecture compared to the new part of O’Hare that seemed fresh and modern.

It is, but it wasn’t his choice, it was illegal, and he stranded aircraft by doing it the way he did.

Midway is actually much nicer than ORD is now, but I prefer American to Southwest, so I haven’t flown out of there in a few years.

yeah but nothing can change it now, might as well move on and enjoy NI

Oh, true - it ain’t coming back. I gave money to FOMF *before* the airport shut down, but anyone who’s doing it now is nuts.
It’s a nice park - I’ve been to a few shows there, too and it’s a great venue.
I just hate Daley in general, all the more so for how he did it. And, his actions *degraded* air safety along the lakefront. His noise about small planes hitting building was just bulls**t lies to try to get what he wanted - which was condos, not that park.

It was a dump when I flew through there regularly in the 70s.

my big thing with the lakefront is that we lost out on the George Lucas Museum because people thought that space should stay a fucking parking lot. damn Nimbys

Yeah, that was a different group that blocked that. Presumably so they can continue to park near their boats in Burnham Harbor, and tailgate 8x/year at Soldier Field...

I wish I could give you more stars - it’ll always be Washington National Airport to me. Used to fly in there from ORD regularly in the ‘90's and I just thought that name was so cool, as is the River Visual approach to Rwy 19.

Yeah, but were you ever at MDW before they rebuilt it? Made Terminal 2 at ORD look like the Taj Mahal.

River approach used to freak me out as a kid. MOM WE’RE GOING TO LAND IN THE WATER!
I’m working on moving back to the DC area, perhaps very soon, so it’ll be interesting to see if the Reagan name has caught on locally. I know for a while it was met with much resistance.

That last right turn at the end is pretty scary, especially if you have a window seat on the right hand side and aren’t expecting it!
