A lot of people complain about Airbus design, but I think the A320 is a really good looking aircraft.

It’s not bad, but I’m still more of a 737 fan. I think it’s more curvaceous and graceful.

The 737NG looks pretty in the air, especially with those tall winglets.

But there’s a reason why the originals were called ‘Fat Albert’ or “Fluff”.

But there’s charm in the A320's inherent dorkiness—actually, most Airbuses. I don’t think there’s a single one of their fleet that’s more elegant than a comparable Boeing design, but they’ve carved out their own style with their stubby noses and angular appendages.

Funny you mention that. I’m working on my Lightroom skills, and am right in the middle of revisiting a folder of pictures I took at KDFW last November. This isn’t a great shot technically, but it gives a great illustration of the very dorkiness you describe. It’s an aircraft designed by a committee, which is exactly what it is. Way too many straight lines. The 737, and most other Boeing designs, look like they were drawn by hand by an artist who wanted to make a picture of what an airplane should look like.

Of course, this is all one man’s subjective opinion of aesthetics. But I think Boeing just makes prettier airplanes.

Absolutely. But I think that’s where it’s charm is. Hardly a straight line to be found, though that look is accentuated here by the SWA livery. Perhaps “zäftig” is the word I’m looking for.

I think that Boeing has done a lot to the 737 over the years to make it look better than it did originally. Hell, the 737NG is the same as this 737-200 in name only, for all practical purposes.

Bonus Janet picture :)

For whatever reason, even the turbofans make a big difference on the looks.

The big high bypass turbofans look cool on anything because big intake = looks like moar powahhhhh! and power is good.

Also, the NG aircraft are longer, so they minimize the fat belly/huge vertical stab look of the original.

The A350 is a sharp looking plane.
