if you plan to be driving in the netherlands soon
our traffic cams normally used to generate revenue with speeding tickets are getting upgraded to also snap pics of anyone that looks like they might be playing with their phones (said pics will then get reviewed by a copper to determine if you should be fined) fines 230 euros
also being caught apping behind the wheel will now hold a maximum penalty of 2 years prison (in extreme cases without injuries)
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
(youll need google translate for that one... as i havent found it in english yet)

As a general rule, if you’re going to be driving anywhere, put the phone down.

oh i agree... but last time i said that on the fp i got a bazzillion idiots hating on me for all their legit reasons to be on the phone in the car

They need to drive a stickshift then. Super tough to try and even adjust my GPS while shifting. No good reason to be on the phone while driving.....pull over if it is an emergency

A little intrusive, I think.
If I glance at a text that says “please call me when you can,” it’s among the least serious distractions I would face while driving.
Yet I would be penalized just like Hilda Van Ducklips hamming it up for Snaapchaat.co.nl
:D

yeah.... i suspect a lot of people will get 230 euro fines on their doormats and be all like... whaaaaaaaaat!
then try to fight it only to be confronted with a pic of them holding their phone whilst driving.. wich is illegal
its not gonna make the coppers more popular.. thats for sure

Put the phone down
if you plan to be driving—period.

To them I would just say, there are a ton of 3rd party bluetooth speaker or integration units. But, it’s not worth arguing with FP people sometimes.

true dat.... but the dutch are taking a pretty hard stance on it now (wich is fine by me... even if its mostly a get rich quick scheme by the cops like their camouflaged speed traps)
but hell if it works im for it
(also last time i said put the phone down if your driving on the fp i got a lot of hate from people who apparantly reeeeaaaally need to be on their phone at all times and its no more distracting than changing the radio station)

I don’t get picking the low-hanging fruit of people on the phone at the lights, as long as they keep one eye on the light. If they don’t go when it turns green, THEN by all means throw the book at them. But personally I’d rather people be able to check their directions at the lights so they aren’t lost and in the way when they’re moving... and if that means allowing other people to text at the lights so be it.
But in every OTHER respect of the rule, it isn’t strict ENOUGH.

yeah.. i suggested that (but the whole argument pretty much sank into the next you’ll be telling i cant adjust my radio safely whilst driving etc.... it was like arguing with gun nuts)

Well, truth be told on a touch screen it probably is nearly as bad as being on the phone...
Yet another reason I don’t mind my old-school setup in the least. Factory nav systems are mostly useless anyway in my experience.
