and my snowblower is out of commission. Small engine repair shop picked it up and took it to their shop. Last night they told me it needs a new auger shaft, bearing and possible a pulley to the tune of ~$200 in parts plus whatever labor ends up being.
I paid $100 for the snowblower like 6 years ago and have only really replaced shear pins and a belt. It’s a monstrous 33" 13hp machine. There’s no way I could replace it with anything close to new for under a grand.
Order them parts small engine guy!

All I have to attack my family’s lot is an ATV and an 80s snowblower that just doesn’t want to die.
Neither of which can make much headway in a heavy snowstorm.

I wore out a honda 610 blower that I bought used for $160, then sold it as-is on craigslist for $150. I then bought an $800 troy built at Lowes. The new blower is amazing and I will take good care of it. If I didn’t have a blower I’d have to pay someone to plow, and that starts to add up assuming I’d need to get plowed out maybe 20-30 times a year. I think I blow more snow than I mow lawn.

Yeah, it’s coming down pretty good right now. Hoping the last two storms took out all the weak tree limbs, so I don’t lose power/internet this time.

Man, that’s brutal. I’ve been forcing my little craftsman to start with a shot of carb cleaner in the cylinder lol. Just trying to keep the little single stage bastard going through the winter, which is just about wrapped up. Oh, it was free about 8 years ago so I’m not too upset about abusing it like this.

They told me the bearing had been bad for so long that it had machined the shaft so that the pulley flopped around hard enough to throw the belt.

This snowblower has a few more good years left. The motor runs strong and it starts first pull.

well damn.
Mine has been a pain in the ass since I got it, but like I said - free. I disassembled and properly cleaned the carb this winter hoping it would help, didn’t much. I think the carb needs to just be replaced. I think they’re only about 12 bucks and I can swap it myself.
