Thinking about My Car Situation in the Future.

Right now I dont own a car, and have zero need for one.

I live in the city, just a few blocks from a train line, grocery store in walking distance, plenty of Ubers, and I travel on a weekly basis. What this means for my car habit is that I get to save up some money and buy something really dumb on the other side in a few years.

For a while there I was thinking about going the German route, and still am for the most part, I certainly wouldnt say no to something in the M or RS line. But with all the hype, or anti-hype, regarding the Supra I’ve been thinking of taking a closer look should the specs turn out to be decent.

I wouldnt mind driving a meme, and I’ll be pretty unique when sales are inevitably poor. And should it start in the mid-40's it’ll be cheaper than many of the German offerings as well.

But all of this is well in the future, so why am I rambling on about it? Well, I’ll let you know its definitely not because I’m procrastinating on spreadsheets I should be working on right now.

Mid 40's? I thought people were saying it would start around $60k+ because a 90's Supra in today’s money is somewhere north of $70k. Maybe I’m misremembering.

I’ve been thinking the same thing. A FR Toyota is definitely in my future, and while I’m most likely going to bring a Chaser or Soarer over from Japan, part of me wants an IS or one of these A90s.

You NEED a car, you just don’t realize it. You muddle along life with out one. But you can’t SURVIVE long without one. :P

Yeah, but remember its BMW Z4 based.

The last Z4 started at 48,000. Assuming the BMW is planning on having a base price that sells at a premium there is no way it starts in the $60-70k range. Spec’d out maybe, but not base (in my mind)

Yeah, I asked my insurance company about it after I read that. They said they’d just insure it as if it were just another SC and just make a note it was a JDM import.

Maybe its because my insurance person knows I don’t use the right address, but they weren’t budging. Good for you though, hope it works out.

Like I said in another comment, (I think) there is no chance in hell this thing will base more than the Z4 counter part. And I seriously dont think the Z4 base will be above $60k.

This (probably) wont have the specs to be close to competing with the GTR/NSX and I doubt they will try and price it that way.

I think Rico is in the ballpark on price but it’s just a SWAG on my part. We’ll find out soon, though - I hope you’re right.

Yeah, I hope so too. Like I said, its the whole Z4 thing that really sticks out to me. No way BMW would allow anyone, let alone Toyota, to take on of their cars and sell it for more than their version.

Plus, starting around 70k puts it as a Cayman fighter, which I just dont think is what its wanting to go for.
