U.S. Navy Douglas F4D-1 Skyrays of Fighter Squadron 74 (VF-74) “Be-Devilers” during a fly over of Naval Air Station Miramar, California, on 14 May 1956.

It’s Friday, Oppo, so let’s get flying into the weekend. Any big plans? I get to drive a Ferrari on Saturday morning for the first time in my life. Details on Monday.

Bonus useless information: The F4D Skyray was affectionately known as the Ford.

Tried to get Chelsea (the free smart) running because this weekend is going to be nice...aaaaand her battery is not just dead, it’s super dead. *sigh*

I’m jealous. Also, the Skyray is gorgeous. I took this pic of my son a couple of weeks ago at the Pima Air Museum.

Supposed to be working for the second weekend in a row, but already told the boss this weekend was to make up for important stuff I didn’t get to do last weekend, so I probably can’t do much. Besides, being on track to work 19 days straight is not good for burnout levels. I may be working from home, but the stress levels are just as intense as any office (or more, since there’s no “soft skill” face-to-face communication). Nobody has the spine to stand up to senior management and say “We might have to delay your meeting by a day, our people are overworked” because old men think that’s being a wuss.

So it’ll be leading the Cub Scouts and going to a soccer match in the morning, yardwork in the afternoon. Celebrating my dad’s 70th on Sunday.

I’m jealous! That should be a lot of fun tomorrow, look forward to the details!

And that Skyray is a gorgeous airplane - which I’ve never seen before.

I have no plans this weekend. Hopefully that means I get some house work done, play some banjo, see a show, and visit my dad.

The Skyray was an outstanding plane (another product from the fertile mind of Ed Heinemann ) with a short life. It arrived too late for Korea, and was retired before Vietnam, yet was the first Navy plane to hold the world speed record and the first Navy/Marine aircraft to break Mach 1 in level flight. It was also the last Douglas fighter delivered (the F5D , an all-weather derivative of the Skyray, was canceled prior to acceptance).

I’ve got to study and also try to figure out vacation plans (which means studying is not going to happen until I sort out vacation).

Also, MotoGP begins this weekend! So stoked!

I think I get three laps of the autocross course. I got to choose between a Ferrari, a McLaren or a Lamborghini. Being a Ferrari F1 guy, the choice was obvious. I popped the extra money for an SD card of photos. We’ll see how they come out. Hopefully it doesn’t rain. I also have to pay $49 for their insurance. Otherwise, I had to provide proof that my own insurance would cover up to $250,000 in damage. And I ain’t got dat.

The Skyray has always been one of my all-time favorites. The F5D went supersonic on its maiden flight, and probably would have been a total badass.

Sounds like a full plate. Congrats to your dad. My dad turned 78 yesterday.

That’s a great shot. The Skyray has always been a favorite of mine. And Pima is on my bucket list. We took a family vacation out west a couple of years ago, and we only had time for me to stand outside the fence and sigh.

Sounds like a great weekend. My dad turned 78 yesterday. I wish he didn’t live half way across the country.

Thanks. I go about once a year. My mother in law is in Tucson so my boy and I go there and the Titan missile museum.

My mom used to live in Green Valley, and we visited her a few times before she moved back east. Still never went. *sigh*
