Been doing the good old car search lately, and the FiST is on my list... For those of you out there who have owned and lived with one for awhile, what has your experience been like? Has it been at all unreliable or costly to maintain? Thanks for the input!

I’m at 24xxx miles and I haven’t been to a dealer. Only issues for me are some squeaks and rattles, and Sync doing an update weird. Granted most of the squeaks and rattles are because Michigan roads.
Common issues are the blend door actuator, and the current service bulletin for the whole coolant thing. Some people in the early model years had issues with the axles losing grease in the joints.

I’ve got a 2014, I’m at 62K miles, I had problems with the rear brake calipers seizing but the dealer blamed it on Vermont’s use of road brine, which is probably fair, after the second time I did them myself and loaded the slider accordions full to over flowing with caliper grease and the problem has not repeated. I also had a CEL that claimed to be the inter-cooler temp/pressure sensor, but turned out to be corrosion in the ECU connector, a new ECU was covered under extended warranty, but again, to be absolutely fair; fucking mice had built a nest right over the socket and it reeked of mouse piss... (the dealer never mentioned it, so neither did I) Sync has frozen a couple times, but a fuse pull has reset it without issue each time, I also had a failed Evap canister purge valve at about 50K, also covered under extended warranty, and I had the TSB/Recalls done for the HAVC blower motor baffle, door latches, and coolant level sensor. It’s been very cheap to own (thanks extended warranty!) and it has never left me stranded, but my Hyundai was less trouble.... although significantly less fun. It’s been a good car, no failures that kept me from driving it, but not a perfect paragon of reliability.

34k miles, 14k of which have been tuned: Zero issues mechanical issues. Some QC issues here and there, but overall it’s been fine. The only real complaints I have about that are the cars fault is the rate at which it uses front brakes, which is between 25 and 35k miles or so I’ve seen on forums.

I would say get the latest car you can afford.

True, the FieSTa is a front brake killer. My Alfa 164-S was too, so I’m not completely put off by it, but there’s no denying the Fist eats front pads and rotors for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. With 62K on mine, I just put my third set in.

That said, it takes like 10 minutes per side if you don’t have to fight lug nuts, and they aren’t incredibly expensive.

Mine has been absolutely terrible. The V6 engine in the front overheats and is really noisy. And the air cooled flat 4 in the back doesn’t run at all!
And the blinker fluid retention is terrible.. leaks out as fast as I can fill it.
Also the four wheel drive sucks... I don’t think it’s sending any power to the front wheels.
And every time I open the hood, to my surprise the car has run out of smoke each and every time. It’s getting expensive having to replace it since Lucas is the only supplier making it.
Btw... I found an old canister of leaded gasoline... it smells good. Did you know it coudl ahshlmell sog ooood?

Not sure if you’re still looking for answers. I have 90,000kms, no issues other than overheating badly. Big Mountune rad fixed that.
