Between last weekend and today, the hardwood installation is done. Last weekend wrapped up the living room and did most of the dining room.

I’m going to get new register covers, I’m thinking a satin black would look good

Today completed the hard part of the dining room (the last few rows where the nailer can’t be used) and the office closet, which completes all the flooring.

Dining room. The card table felt much less out of place when it was just plywood...

Closet. I have since re-hung the bi-fold door.

Even the t-molding between this and other floors is in place (no pictures sorry), which means it is totally done. I have some clean up (especially in the room downstairs that is the Saw Room) but it’s good to have this massive step out of the way, and to be able to take some time off from working on the house.

Next up will be baseboard, which I need to get stain for that matches the rest of the trim. I haven’t forgotten about the brick veneer for the fireplace, it’s just a bit lower priority since it’s one thing in one room, not so much a “most of the house” project.

Looks great. Hard wood is savagely time consuming

That it is! It’s not bad once you get the first few rows squared up, then the last few suck where it needs hand nailed with no clearance to the wall. Lots of time, lots of stand-up-kneel-down.

Do you already have the baseboard purchased? Paint grade wood is much cheaper than stain grade for baseboards. Depending on the style you’re going for, having white or black baseboards is very popular.

I’m just planning on using pine ranch casing like was on there (but super beat up) when I took out the carpet; it’ll match the trim elsewhere nicely and is fairly inexpensive. Not a big fan of painted trim - much prefer the warmth of stain, though it does look good in the right setting (and in others it looks cheap ;) ).

Nice! I love hard wood. I have it anywhere we don’t have tile.

Nice. Reminds me I still need to find someone who can restore the 19th century oak floors we uncovered. (Was under cheap ass carpet and two layers of laminate.) But looks pretty save-able.

But you do get to play with one of those cool side nailer contraptions.

Refinishing hardwood is a whole other can of worms - good luck! It’ll be worth it!

Talk to some local schools that have a wood gym floor and see if they recommend anyone. The guy who did my house does schools all summer and then residential projects the rest of the time and he was awesome.

Same, except for a staircase to my basement that’s cement. It got carpet, but that’s it.

Yeah that’s why I’m looking for someone who knows what they’re doing. I know enough to know what I should not do myself. ;)

Never would have thought of that.

I used one that hooked up to my compressor and you smash the rubber part with a rubber hammer. It was fun. The end, not so much

Well, hardwood in a basement is asking for trouble anyway, unless it’s well and truly finished and waterproofed.

My basement is finished and has waterproof laminate. It’s literally just the stairs that have carpet.

Jealous. I don’t even have a basement.
