It was a good year.
Oppo review coming soon.

That’s a lovely color. Props on it not being black or silver.

Lovely color. Quite the looker ya got there.

Is that Midnight Blue? That is almost my ideal Porsche. If I ever bought a 911 it would be a 997 Targa in Midnight Blue. I just love the wider rear end on the c4 and Targa.

Proper spec - please holler if you ever decide to part with it...

Cobalt Blue.
I wanted a Targa 4S initially, but they are hard to find...even moreso with the options I wanted.

I love the color too. It was the only Cobalt Blue car I saw for sale.
I specifically did not want silver or black unless I happened to land a nice 997T or 997.2 GTS which would have made them acceptable.

davesaddiction has first dibs, but I’ll put you on the list after him ;)

How has the ownership cost been given your usage and type of miles? The Ptax scared me in the past but now I’m wondering if that German over-engineering might make it a wash against an older BMW.

Love it! A 911 is on the list for possible next cars, depending on way too many factors. I would love to wrap it in the same color green as my beetle, unless it was blue. Then I’d have the red F car and blue P car. Would be nice for my yin and yang haha

In one year and just under 8,000 miles, I bought an overpriced oil change and inspection ($300) from my local Porsche dealer, had the left front CV boot replaced by my Audi/Porsche indy (~$400), and added 3 or so quarts of oil between oil changes, which is well within Porsche’s spec for oil consumption. I also just got a set of new tires, but there wasn’t a whole lot of tread left on previous set in the first place. Ceramic rotors showed no wear (as is typical when only used on the street), and pads are still good.
So I’d say it’s been pretty damn reasonable.
I’m usually a DIY’er when it comes to the minor stuff, but when it comes to this car I’d rather let a reputable shop do all the work and retain the documentation.
I’m not worried about IMS-B on my car because it’s an ‘06 with the larger, non-serviceable bearing. The failure rate on those is so small it isn’t worth fretting over. It doesn’t show any signs of bore scoring either, as I mentioned oil consumption is within spec. I always warm it up gently (keep it under 3000 rpm and light load until oil temp hits 200 F) before having any fun.

I highly recommend 997 ownership at some point for any enthusiast!

Beautiful blue. Where’s the scenery at?

The color is one of the reasons I had to have the car!
Picture was taken at Emma Wood State Beach, off of Pacific Coast Highway in Ventura county.

Quite reasonable, hopefully it continues that way for many many miles! Miles 55K-80K on my Z4M have been heavier on my wallet, but the entry price was lower. DIY’ing all I can now and finally added a DD meaning the costs will be spread out further, but it will still see some track time.
Still perusing the BMWCCA and PCA classifieds for those unique 1-owner cars.

The car was expensive, but I think I got a good buy.
I am the 4th owner, but my car came with a binder jammed full of maintenance documentation, and came with a clean bill of health. So I did not shy away from that or the mileage on the higher side (79,400 when I bought it). It was pristine. The previous owner spent half his time in Monterey and entered the car in the Concours at Pebble Beach!
It’s also a loaded car. Exclusive interior, sport seats, sport chrono, bose, PCCB’s, TechArt coilovers and steering wheel...and the X51 Carrera Powerkit.

Nice. It’s been almost exactly a year since I received my 996 from Flynorcal. I am jealous to think of how much driving you’ve done while I was engine swapping and moving across the country and then waiting out MN winter. But I’m almost ready to roll mine out for the spring.
I await your Oppo review.

4th owner? I shudder to think what being the 4th owner on an M car would be like. I assume it could be the same for a Porsche, but then generally they don’t depreciate to the point where someone buys it and doesn’t take care of it.

I appreciate you remembering that - ha!

No doubt a no expense spared car! I am not familiar with the TechArt coilovers, Porsche OEM or contracted out to another manufacturer?
I am still leaning towards a 987.2 Cayman S (MT) but so few come up for sale... Figure it would be a riot with a full exhaust, tune and proper suspension.

I am the 4th owner of my BMW, average of 3-4 years per owner - kind of the going rate with older cars. Those 1 owner examples are hard to find.

TechArt is a TUV-certified aftermarket supplier/tuner. The suspension ($7400) and steering wheel ($3k) were installed by the first owner after delivery of the car. As were the PCCB’s, which were dealer installed and do not show up on the sticker. The Powerkit is factory installed, though.
A 911 was my childhood dream car, but I would have loved to settle for a Cayman S, however I just don’t fit comfortably in them. I can’t slide the seat far back enough.

Stellar - those will definitely help keep the value of the car up long term. Sounds like a no BS factory order.
Ahh. As much as I wanted to love the Cayman platform, experiences in 911s and other cars with more character took me elsewhere. Now that the engines have forced induction I expect the N/A market to stay strong.

Yeah, I’m confident that even though I have been steadily putting miles on my car, the fact that the 997 is the last analog 911, the backlash and the turbo cars, and my car’s unique build I am confident that it will hold its value.
