Rules of the game -
1. Must be manual
2. Must be sports car
3. Fun more important than Fast
4. Can be new or used, but must be something relatively reliable and reasonable maintenance. Meaning no Testarossa’s with $30k engine out service requirements. As much as I might like one in white as shown...

NSX.
Original one (shame on you if you didn’t assume that)

Whenever anything new is released my counter is almost always “but the LS3 ND exists”

Have carefully considered an NSX. Got very close to buying one on BAT recently too. But there’s something about it that holds me back a bit. Somehow doesn’t give me the fizz like I think it should. Almost too good or needs more character. Def in the running though.

But if it has to be a normalish car, it’s hard to argue against a used naturally aspirated 911 GTS in that price bracket

I’d go with a ‘Vette C7 Zo6, most $100k European sports cars are gonna be fairly fickle with the maintenance, you can’t get a GTR with a manual, and there aren’t that many other Asian or American sports cars around that price point with a manual. A Viper perhaps, or the face-lifted original NSX.

It’s on my shortlist. If things go juuuust right over the next year....
Besides that I’m thinking R8, Lamborghini Gallardo, i8 or even a 4c

Lotus Exige S
Heard one of these for the first time and boy does that Toyota V6 sound amazing.

Since you didn’t specify currency, 100k CAD will net you a 355 spider with the engine service done fairly recently (alternatively 348tbs can be found here too).
If we go by the exchange rates, 100k USD (130k CAD) will net you the logical choice in this bracket: a Cayman GT4.

2009 997 Turbo is the best 997 Turbo. Fast, fun, manual, has the updated PCM, and damn reliable because Metzger.

I’d take the NSX over those others, but all are interesting. R8 and Gallardo are both hard to find in a manual, and pricey when they are. That’s the only way I’d consider them too. i8 is not performance oriented enough. I like the 4C, but no manual, and it is very small. I’m also very interested in the Evora 400, spiritual successor to first gen NSX.

911 GTS is on the short list. I’m not sure how used it needs to be to get under $100k though, but just a matter of time. Tricky part might be finding one the way I’d want it.

997 GTS’ are generally in the low 70's to mid 80's.
991 GTS may just start to be dipping below 100k.

Good options. I’d take a 328 or maybe 348 before a 355 though. The GT4 is at/near the top of my list actually. Can’t really come up with an argument against it, except for finding a good one with options/color I like and that it’s a fancy Cayman. Not that there’s anything wrong with that really.
![]() 03/05/2018 at 19:54 |

Hmm, hadn’t really thought about a 997 Turbo. Definite maybe. Would this be better than a GT4?
![]() 03/05/2018 at 19:55 |

Yes, or an Evora 400! Downside is it’s a Lotus. Upside is it’s a Lotus!

It is at/near the top of my list. Sounds incredible!

I’ve had a few Corvettes (never a C7 though) and really like them but might be looking for something different. The $100k is more of a cap, so something cheaper is perfectly fine. I like the GS more than the Z06.
![]() 03/05/2018 at 19:58 |

As nice as the GT4 is, something about a slightly older Cayman with a SOUL exhaust is equally enticing.

997 turbo, gt3 or 996 gt3. Z28 for track day or zr1 for street driving, get a Caravaggio interior for the Vette. Or the v8 Miata.

Looking at all the other 90's Japanese halo cars, I keep thinking to myself, “yeah it’s great, but.... I could buy an NSX instead”
The idea of a reliable, well-designed exotic that’s pure drivers car just keeps getting better.
Second choice is what Decay said, V8 swapped Miata.

If you love the twisties, the GT4 will definitely be a better fit for the “fun over fast” criteria over the 997. Personally I don’t fit in the Cayman body very well so I just don’t consider it.
But the 997 is a far more flexible package. I drive my 997 regularly, it’s comfortable enough for 3 people (no one can sit behind me because I’m 6'4"). and I’ve even done Costco trips in it.
The only real issue with the metzger engine is a plastic coolant pipe flange. Replace the pipe with a metal upgrade and it’s a non issue, and you have a bulletproof, comfortable, daily driver supercar.
You could easily pick a manual 997.2 GTS rather than a Turbo. But...who wouldn’t want a manual Turbo?

Wow, now that is interesting.

Simple, the obvious answer is a 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV-6.
Does it have a manual? Yes.
Is it a sports car? Yes.
Is it more fun than fast? Yes. 60 in 8.5 seconds of Busso V6 fury.
Is it used? Yes.
Is it under $100k? Yes.

If you live outside US, R34 GTR. Inside US current GT-R. Bullshit you don look at one as it drives by. So much after market and customization. And close enough with the flappy paddles.
If manual is must and US, De-Tomaso Pantera. No clue about the trans but 351 cleveland is decent and if it does go easily rebuilt
Saw in a previous comment you said no to a NSX so only next step.

997 GT3
360 Spider, although manuals tend to be just over $100k.

Gen 1 NSX is Def an option. I was 2nd place bidder recently on a NA1 NSX on BAT recently so I’m interested. Thing is I can’t seem to get jazzed enough to actually buy one. Give me more noise, more mechanical sensations, more character. But not old Ferrari character! I’m in US and manual is a must (fun car) so Pantera is very interesting. Have not considered that but it does seem to have everything I’m looking for.

Eh, no fizz. Well, some fizz but need a V10 manual. If i found the right one yeah but I might be waiting a while....

Man selling your company must’ve paid off lol! I’d say go for a first gen R8. Then do a nice wrap like that European skier and race it around on wintertires all winter.

Yeah I think the Pantera would have the old Ferrari flare without the heartache of seeing that repair bill. Though again I honestly have no clue about the trans or clutch, I just know that the 351 Cleveland is a strong motor even with medium bolt ons. Its when you eclipse the 450-500 hp is when they like to crack. (stock numbers are around 330 -360hp). 351 Windsors came in later and are more rare. (around 1988)
They do sound amazing though and im not a Ford guy.
