Oh, this poor guy. At least he’s honest!

But there are others trying to dig out from underneath the mountain of misery that is owning an older Allroad unless you just don’t care about money.

Some highlights for me include the passenger’s window “living there in the door panel like a turtle hiding in its shell after a kid shakes the life out of it,” “rear passenger [tire] deflates faster than over used blow up doll,” and “it’s a bipolar POS.”

My dad’s friend who worked for GM at the time (early 2000's) was given an Allroad as part of a program where GM wanted their employees to drive competitors cars and give their opinion. While it was parked I saw a mouse run in and I was all like “Eric a mouse ran into your Allroad”, we then chased it out.

This hits close to home, as my wife and I both need our cars every weekday, and so our solution to both of us owning an older (10+) german car was to buy a third car, a Volvo wagon.

What the hell is wrong with us.

Not just the always-expensive air suspension, but a CEL on a 14 year old complex German car with two turbos and no room in the engine bay. This guy nailed the diagnosis, and the solution: give up and buy a different car.

haha, exactly.

I think with the age of our cars, and being able to do some work myself, we probably spend less on our three cars than most people spend on one or two. In the summer I have the old truck; I don’t count that, really. It’s dirt cheap to run, register, and insure though.
