After much deliberating and ignoring prudent advice from wiser Oppos, I bought a car.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
My final list included a GTI (at one point the salesman had it sitting outside with the keys in it), an FJ cruiser because reasons, and an IS350.
I did the adult thing and got the
Lexus. I love it! 300 hp is more power than traffic ever lets me use anyway, and my old butt loves the comfy seats. I also sleep well at night not worrying about reliability or massive depreciation.
Pros:
300 hp is adequate
AWD is not FWD
Toyota reliability
Decent handling while still being a comfy commuter
Cons:
300 hp is just.... adequate
More expensive to tune that most turbo engines
I am often mistaken for a realtor
An Uber driver in a Corolla S said “we have the same car” and.... he’s not far wrong. My seats smell better though.
It isn’t a wagon. Being an adult is hard sometimes.

Does the hump in the footwell bother you at all?
Every time I drive an AWD Lexus sedan it annoys me sooo much.

What year? That looks like the facelift. First few years had some issues with the interior but I think if it’s a bit recent they are incredibly solid.

That’s a great choice you won’t regret. My adult solution to having two aging high-mileage manual BMWs was to get a third car, allowing us to each keep our beloved high-mileage manual BMWs. Please help me haha

It’s either a 2011 or 2012. Is definitely the facelift though because the LED DRLs.

Does the hump in the drivers side(wtf Toyota) footwell get in your driving position?

I have short legs- no basketball scholarship but I fit in most cars :)

Bonus points for you! 2012. I don’t like the new Predator Face, and this was a clean 40,000 mile peach

I’m 5'11" and but end up sitting very close in my ISF. I would die if I had to drive a car with that footwell hump all the time. Or at least have a callus on the right side of my leg.

Ahh. I’ve been looking at 2011-2014 ISFs for so long it was natural. The 2013 and 2014 years are kind of rare and the wheels did not seem right for 2013 or 2014 either. My ISF had an entire 64k miles

I had not noticed it- but I’m sure it will drive me crazy now. Thanks.

I really thought about an E46 M3. One of these days my kids will piss me off and I’ll spend their inheritance on a shop and, well maybe 2 cars. One of them will be an E46 M3.

That’s not a real Land Cruiser though!
Wait, .. no, still applies..

Funny thing- I bought this a few months ago because it fit my urban lifestyle. Now I’m quitting my job and moving to the mountains. Maybe the FJ would’ve been the better choice after all. An 80 series may still be in my future as a winter and camping rig!

This is good adulting.

“Hi. I see you were looking for an IS and didn’t hit me up. Not even a test drive.
“No, I’m not upset. Not at all. I mean it’s okay to hate fun, speed and V8 power if you want to. Feeling isn’t mutual, just so we’re clear. I don’t hate you. It’s too bad you don’t feel the same way, but that’s fine.”

*looks at bank account*
So cruel. Makes me think I should’ve sold my soul and been a hedge fund manager.

The E46 is a great car. The M3s have probably passed bottom and are going back up in price... but they’re not crazy yet.

A coworker had an earlier one and the aluminum wheels literally rotted away on him. I don’t know how common it is, but he said it was a widespread issue. Reliable car otherwise, though. He still drives it.

Yeah the earlier ones had some weird quality issues. Mechanically they seem great though. My boss had an ‘07 from new until some time in 2016. Around 2010 it developed a bunch of strange things like the dashboard melting. He got things sorted out under warranty and it never gave him another issue.

Oh dammit! I hate it now!
