One of my favorite professors (who I traveled with to New Zealand back in January) is looking to trade in her CTS-V coupe that she’s had since new on something different. Her only requirement? It must be faster. Also, knowing her, it will be a bit posh (no Z06 or Hellcat). Beyond that, I discussed everything from a 911 to a Tesla with her. She’s probably buying something new within the next few months, so place your bets given the limited information I’ve given you.

F Type based purely on the use of “posh”.

Okay, what does the husband do?

I’m gonna go with M5.

She should keep it and have it built...

What does that matter? A tenured professor at a private university can make north of 200k without accounting for revenue from published works.

I knew they could earn more than high school teachers, but not enough to be comfortably affording $60,000 cars.

They can make a considerable amount of money. I had a professor who had a new 7 series just about every year and who liked to collect old Jags. At least on the business end of things, they often have backgrounds in the private sector or they do consulting work on the side. Even assistant professors can make over $100k and also do occasional contracting work.
If I had the stomach for even more school and wanted to forgo my full time job, I would have gone for a doctorate instead of my MBA. It’s still tempting to go back after having talks with some of the business professors at my old university.

I’m going to be disappointed if it’s a Tesla. Aston Martin? Vantage?

Aston Martin DB11, 600 hp/516 lb.-ft. Price: $214,820
New vantage?
4.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds and a speed of up to 195 mph
$149,995 (base)

Current CTS-V would be a good bet from me!

Not to mention consulting and possibly even patent royalties.

E63S or M5 would be nice, but I can also definitely see a 911 turbo in her future.

I had a math professor who owns 2 Bugattis (a Type 57 and a Type 35C). Professors make tons.

Yup. I mentioned the consulting in a second response. The majority of my b-school professors spent just as much time consulting as they did teaching. Some of them had complete side businesses and basically taught part time (with full tenure to boot).

Some. I know plenty of professors who barely survive (on something like 30k a year in a city).

One of my psych profs made $350,000 according to the Sunshine List back in 2014 when I looked at it. Tenured professors can make a lot.

Yeah, I think I’m just in a different place, too. My teachers at my college don’t seem like they have a whole lot, and I’m pretty sure they’re all full-timers this semester. I go to a public four-year in GA.

My initial guess as well, maybe a used Continental GT?

She’s never been married but thanks for asking.

That’s neat. But let me re word this: MY PROFESSOR HAD MORE THAN ONE PREWAR BUGATTI.

I hope I didn’t come across as rude; I was just being kind of goofy because back in high school, when a teacher had a nice car, her husband usually had a high-paying job. Unfortunately, others didn’t seem to take that comment as lightly as I hoped they would.

In the interest of honesty, I will say that yes, it came across as derogatory, alough I get where you’re coming from and that you didn’t mean anything by it.
Now you know: if you want to make a killing, get your PhD and get tenure at a little private school.

Posh and devastatingly quick, you say?

I don’t even know who has tenure where I am. Like I said in another comment, I go to a public college, so that may be different. Thank you for correcting me; I’m sorry, and now I know.
On a serious note, has she considered an RC-F?

I’ll ask her next time I see her, another person I know just bought one.

Did you get to drive one of ‘em?
Those cars are utterly beautiful, I’ve seen a few in museums.

Psh nah, he was horribly boring and I used to sit in the back and fall asleep. Game recognizes game when it comes to cars tho.
