Why do I ever look at FB? It’s almost as bad as CL. The issue: someone in a local car group was in an accident and asked for attorney recommendations. Being an attorney, I tried to help and recommend someone (who does NOT advertise on radio or tv and does NOT have stupid nickname like The Strong Arm or The Texas Hammer). I even pointed out that I had experience using this lawyer when I got hit because — even though I am a lawyer myself — the other guy’s insurance company tried to screw me over on the value of my 66 Mustang and refused to reasonably resolve the personal injury issues. Then come the idiots who want to argue. It really makes you not want to help someone out.

Don’t hire an attorney, just use your insurance company. For a non-injury or minor injury situation, that works (and I said that). But the insurance company is not going to be your best advocate for pain and suffering, lost wages, etc. I was also accused of just trying to protect my job (I don’t do PI work) and keeping the “scummy lawyers” alive, committing insurance fraud, and encouraging frivolous lawsuits. smh

My wife (then gf) got in a head-on collision a few years back (other driver at fault) and they hired an attorney and got duly compensated. My Mother in law got T-boned by a red light runner in a company van in august, and we spent all night in the er making sure she was okay. Again, attorney.

You’re exactly right, insurance does not cover pain and suffering or even all of your hospital bills (holy hell ambulance rides), and not everyone maxes out their PIP. I have no idea why someone would recommend not using an attorney...suing is like the first thing people think of when they get hurt lol

RIP Brian Loncar The Strong Arm. His death and his daughter’s death are actually a really, really tragic story. I mean, I know we’re all supposed to hate personal injury lawyers, but he essentially died of heartbreak after his daughter died by suicide. That’s gotta be tough no matter who you are. :(

Technically, he died of a cocaine overdose because he relapsed. But yes, her death and the family’s circumstances were extremely sad. Hmmmm... since you mentioned you’re from Dallas, you could call yourself “The Dallas Defender”!

Or since some refer to Dallas as The Big D, you can call yourself The Big D Defender... or “The Big Double D”... and then use large breasted women in your advertising. Hell... you could expand into sexual harassment cases... “If someone has been staring at your Double Ds, it’s time to call The Big Double D. I’ll MAKE THEM PAY.”

As I recall, the advertising committee didn’t approve the first one because he didn’t say his name every time he called himself the Law Hawk. But the statements of law in his ads are correct and he doesn’t actually make promises of certain results, so he’s good to go.

Honestly I wish suing wasn’t the first thing people thought about. In my case, I told the adjuster that I would just take the agreed value from my policy for the car — they lowballed me by $7k. So I had to spend a day rounding up comparables, putting together a list of car show trophies won, etc. They then said they’d pay me what I originally asked for, at which point I told them they had rejected that offer and they now would pay me what the car actually was worth. I ended up getting $7k more than my initial demand. Did they learn their lesson when trying to resolve the PI issues? Nope. Because they made me mad, they ended up paying multiples of what I originally would have accepted. And they knew they were dealing with a lawyer! I can’t imagine how they try to screw everyone else.
