This is my Galaxy S7 Edge in its Spigen Neo Hybrid Crystal case, sitting on its handy wireless charging stand on my desk. I think this might be the ideal combination of convenience features for pure laziness and security.
(The photo looks like crap because I took it with my coworker’s ancient Galaxy S4 Mini. I tried to clean it up best I could but it’s not great. This person was the closest/likeliest available person who would let me use their phone to take a picture.)
I got a cheap Amazon wireless charging stand a few weeks ago for my S7 Edge and I really like the ability to mess with my phone while it’s on the stand. I mean, I could pick it up but it’s nice to get a little notification, give it a quick flick, and get on with my day.
The key to this is the S7 Edge’s fingerprint sensor is on the front of the phone. I use Google Smart Lock to set my house as a trusted location, and my car as a trusted bluetooth device, but I want the phone to stay locked at work in case I leave it on my desk, or forget it in a meeting room, and some nefarious tries to mess with it. This scenario is unlikely to happen, but hey, peace of mind.
Most phones newer than my S7 Edge that support wireless charging have their fingerprint sensors on the back of the phone. What phones besides mine supports wireless charging and has a front fingerprint sensor? I searched GSMArena and the only phones with this combination are the Samsung S5 thru S7, the Note 5 and 7, and the iPhone 8. That’s it.
I suppose the stupid iPhone X could also be unlocked sitting on this stand as long as I move my face to the right spot in front of it.
Luckily, by the time I’m probably in the market for a new phone, in-screen fingerprint sensors should be more common, which will be similarly good for using with a phone on a wireless charging stand.

Front fingerprint sensors are great for accessing your phone without having to pick it up but I much prefer the rear fingerprint sensor because it allows me to unlock my phone as I am removing it from my pocket.

agreed, its a much more natural feeling

I’d prefer a phone where I don’t have to worry about the ability to unlock while it is still on its stand due to the fact that the battery lasts all day and I can just plug it in at night.
Also I’m hungry and i forgot to bring an afternoon snack to work.

This is true. But aside from at home, the places I use my phone the most are at my desk and at the gym, and in neither of those places is it in my pocket. Rear fingerprint sensor means having to pick up my phone, whether it’s sitting on its charging stand, or flat on my desk.
If I were out and about walking places where I had my phone in my pocket more often I could see preferring the rear fingerprint sensor, but I’ve never felt like unlocking my phone with a front sensor while out and about has taken too long.

My battery lasts a long time, that’s not the issue.
Most days after work I go home, spend some time with my wife, then go to the gym. Realistically, I’ve never really had a problem with running the battery so low at work that after charging some on the ride home and/or at home it’s not fine for the gym.
But having it all charged up is just...nice.

I prioritize lazyness 100%. Haven’t had any lockscreen whatsoever in years...
I will say the wireless charging incar phone mount is pretty fantastic

In most of my corporate jobs, IT has security policies in place for accessing work email on a personal device with a real email app instead of the Outlook mobile web page. Usually that involves having a screen lock of some kind set, whether it’s PIN, pattern, fingerprint, etc.
I’m not a big user of my work email on my personal phone, and I leave the notifications turned off for it. But I like having it there if I need it. I also use grocery lists on my phone, which meant that every time I went grocery shopping I was typing in my PIN over and over again to look at and check items off my list. It got super irritating.
So...fingerprint sensor. Bam.

haha okay, I’m happy I don’t have to charge my phone during the day and I’ll happily just plug it in at night.
