So... You expect me to pay 40,000 euros for an Abarth Fiata?

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve sat in a Fiata and I know two things from that experience:

1. My 188cm frame is not wanting to fit in it, and after driving 2000km in a similarly sized 1997 SLK I know I don’t want to have my legs almost againts the dash all the fucking time.

2. I fucking love the Fiata and I wished I fit in one... or that it was sold here in Mexico... turbo for the win!

3.The 160hp miata with the sport package is 31,000 euros in Spain; only 10hp shy of the abarth and 9,000 euros cheaper!

4. Though I understand that this Fiata is sold in the Spanish market (read: taxed to hell and back!) 40,000 euros is around 8,000 euros more than what we paid for our Kia Stinger, a bigger, faster car.

I’ve been on the Kia website for Spain:

1. Oh god is socialism expensive: a Kia Stinger alike mine is 57,000 euros in Spain. *Cross compares other cars* Oh wait I’m wrong.

2. No idea why it’s so dirt cheap here because other cars certainly do not follow that trend. Want a BMW i3? well, it will cost you about 38,000 euros in Spain, and around 500 Euros less in Mexico.... sure it’s a saving, but it’s not as big as the saving on the Stinger which I suspect is artificially marked up in Spain for reasons that WobblesTheMind has explained professionally many times.

First of all, stop complaining, shorty.

Second of all, it may only be 10 HP, but god dammit, it has 36 ft lbs of torque. Why does no one ever look at that? It has nearly 25 % more torque. Come on, man! (As my three year old son would say)

Third, comparing the Stinger to the 124/Miata? What?

Fourth, LISTS!

Kinja'd!!!0

are those 36lb-ft worth 9000 euros?

I brought up the stinger because it surprised me how much more expensive that Fiat is. If the Fiat was a luxury car, say a Cayman, I’d understand a very high price... but a 170hp tiny sports car shouldn’t be 40k! 40K for the base version I might add!

Given that the Abarth isn’t a base model 124....????

So it’s the equivalent to the Grand Touring Miata, top of the line. So you’re comparing a base level Miata, which is $5000 less than a grand touring, to a top level 124, which is $4000 more than a base 124. You’re also using Euros, which are known to be funny money, anyway...

If you order the same car in the U.K.* it’s 33,000 Euros for the auto and manuals are 36,000 Euros.

Kinja'd!!!

The Kia Stinger is 45,685 Euros in the U.K.

Kinja'd!!!

Yes, you can order LHD cars in the U.K.

and these are prices (the prices are inclusive of all taxes and fees) before you’ve even negotiated a discount.

For 9000 euros you could buy a reputable turbo kit taking you anywhere between OEM levels of engine life with a bit more power, to crazy I’m-going-to-need-a-new-transmission levels of boost AND upgrade brakes and suspension. Including the installation

What are you complaining about? I’m 6'1" or 2" and fit perfectly fine in my Miata or Crossfire(SLK).

The Miata seats are a lot more comfy btw. Crossfire had some hard ass foam ... for your ass.

My sister complained zero times on our road trip from Coruña to Lourdes, she had the seats on full heating when it rained, and when we had the too down, she’d cover her face and rest againts the windowsil as I played foo fighters on a cheap Bluetooth speaker.

Shame the car is an auto... Otherwise it would’ve been great, and it also loves overheating.

But yeah, one of my biggest concerns when it comes to cars is “will I fit with someone behind me?”

It wasn’t my decision, I voted remain. It was misold to the electorate by both sides. Many that voted leave voted out of ignorance and in fact the highest percentage were over 50s (like they were going to ‘suffer’ the E.U.much longer at their age anyway). Yes it would be nice to put the brakes on it and go back to normal and laugh about it later on in life and put it down as a bad event but the people have spoken and that’s how politics goes.

I mean, trump is in the Whitehouse and he didn’t even get a majority vote.

As I say, each country has it’s own taxes and how much a car would cost. Ours are inclusive of taxes and registration fees, Spain may not I’m not sure, but then they may have local taxes like the U.S. which the U.K. doesn’t have, it may be cheaper to insure, the emissions rate might already be factored in with the price, etc...

Non Eurozone state.

In Norway the Stinger is NOK 1,049,000 = 108,916 Euros,

Eurozone states.

In Italy the Stinger is 55,000 Euros,

In Ireland the Stinger is 66,894 Euros,

In Portugal the Stinger is 79,350 Euros (actually down from 87,350 Euros).

In France the Stinger is 59,900 Euros.

Consider all the mess around Brexit and the low turnout, I think it would’ve been reasonable to have another vote. But that ship sailed long ago...

Taxes are a pain in the ass to understand... But I think I’d rather pay 108,000 euros and live like a Norwegian lives than 32,000... Socialism is expensive but it’s also good at things like good roads and healthcare and not having 50% of your population under the poverty line...

Kinja'd!!! Svend > Spanfeller is a twat

Unfortunately that proviso wasn’t put in place prior to the vote. It is what it is, we just need to try and make the best of it.

To be fair and we’ve had our issues with Spain, mainly about Gibraltar, but Spain isn’t a bad place to live by any means. Each country is having it’s issues after the 2008 recession and how it’s trying to deal with it’s debt to stave off happening again. Which has lead to increased taxes and loss of jobs. Both Norway and Spain are Social-Democratic, as are most E.U. countries, Japan, Canada and most of Asia.

I guess you guys just went forward with it... to be honest (and this is from the perspective of a Mexican with ties to the most conservative part of Spain) it surprised me that after months of unrest and after that idiot faced buffoon Nigel Farage admitted that the NHS funding thing was crap you guys continued with it. I guess that the EU was already mounting pressure at ya’ll because of other membership challenges. To me its all a great shame, I like the EU, for as failed as it is it also united europe in an amazing way.

Half of my family lives in Spain, and something strongly suggests to me that if Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador wins the elections here, it will turn into my entire family living in Spain. I personally wouldn’t mind living in Santiago de Compostela with access to my SLK230K and good public transport and university,(Admittedly, I wouldn’t use a lot it to the tune of perhaps not insuring it during the entire winter). I really like the university of Santiago!

I test drove the Abarth 124 and the 2.0l MX-5 back to back last weekend, and I didn’t really like the Abarth. It’s annoyingly loud. There’s no real engine note, it’s just exhaust boom all the time. I was also surprised by how they managed to make the engine feel so different than the one in the 595: where the 595 feels like an overly enthusiastic puppy, the 124 left me wanting.

The MX-5 on the other hand is a major case of want.

Prices in Europe have taxes (like VAT) included. Now I don’t know anything about specific taxes in Spain, but I guess the reason why a car like the Stinger is relatively expensive while the BMW i3 is not is related to emissions or gas guzzling.

In my native the Netherlands a Kia Stinger 2.0L starts at €67k (including €25k CO2/gas guzzler tax), the 3.3L at €99k (€50k CO2/gas guzzler tax) and the 2.2L diesel at €59k (€16k CO2/gas guzzler tax). BMW i3? €32k (€0 CO2/gas guzzler tax). All prices are also including VAT.

It’s a system designed so manufacturers are driven to develop more fuel efficient cars. If you car is thirstier than the one from the competition, not only will the consumer pay more for fuel, the car itself will be priced uncompetitively and thus will not sell. It’s a bit draconian in the Netherlands (and the Stinger is a horrible example for a commuter vehicle), but it does work.
