I know accountants put brackets around numbers to show a negative. Is your lunch lady an accountant?
Beef Stew - (Vegetarian)
Pork Chili - (Vegetarian)
Salad - Vegetarian

Of course there are substitutes, but they ought to label it clearer if that’s what they did.
I didn’t ask (though I was tempted), but in this case, it was a watery soup in a tomato broth. Either with or without chicken broth, so one of the descriptors is just wrong.

Yuk.

You mean:
Salad - (meat)

If you think that’s bad you should have seen the soup itself. Looked like they took a normal tomato vegetable soup and tripled the volume by adding water.
I got a salad - no soup for me.

I’m going to guess it probably wasn’t actually vegetarian and whichever cafeteria employee you asked would roll their eyes thoroughly haha.

fixed it for them

I had a Vegan Chicken breast salad once...sigh...

I bet you’re right - - and by ‘vegetarian’ someone figured that just leaving out actual chunks of chicken meant they could go with that.

There are some really tasty meat substitutes out there, and I say that as a non-vegetarian.
But there are some really bad ones out there, too.

Maybe the person who prepared it was vegetarian?

See now, THIS I would actually understand!

That, or the chickens were?

Agreed. But this was no shit chicken...like they proudly discussed carving the chicken fresh that morning.

Oh shit - what the fuck were they thinking???

Sounds about right.

Cannibal chicken. Sounds like a bad grindhouse film.

People have different criteria for what constitutes “meat”.

It appears to say “Vcgctanan” so I think they are in the clear.

Does that translate as ‘chicken’ from Vogon?

I don’t ask that question any more. I just nod and walk off. For example, one of my senior master SGTs here had a $2000 travel expense and didn’t get a receipt. Sigh....

Paper mache chickens. Made from soy paper. In Vietnam.

Yeah, you’re never going to learn anything you want to know by asking that question. Most of the answers you get back will actually lower your IQ, too.

they are in the safe if they use the same chicken as Subway canada does.

And plenty of fast food that’s called “meat” which I’m not so sure about too!

Having eaten a Subway chicken sandwich this is not surprising
