Some of you know I went and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! the other day. This was to fulfill my curiosity as to what they were like to drive. While a 5 minute test drive is not sufficient to fully take in a car, it can at least give you an initial impression; 5 minutes was all I needed to know that I wanted an E9X M3, and enough to know that I didn’t want a luxury trim W204. The curiosity with the Alfa started the other week when I saw one and got this wild idea in my head that I should lease one. I’ve been looking at them online, and have found there are several leftover 2017s with huge discounts on them. Well, in my nationwide search for discounted 2017s, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! I want to know what the actual fuck is going on here.
It seems to be a brand new car that has been inexplicably wrapped with whatever the fuck that wrap is.
The only concession I will make is that I like the wheels.

Maybe that’s the actual grave that Andy Warhol is rolling over in. Did you check the trunk?

Although I will say I kinda support the pattern, just not the portrait,

Step 1 - buy/lease a new Alfa
Step 2 - put a hideous wrap on it
Step 3 - decide you hate it so much you’re getting rid of it within a year
Step 4 - profit (no)

I’m definitely dead now.

Hi. Pittsburgh-native here. Warhol is a local hero and treated as a sort of mythical legend. Note the Pittsburgh skyline in his sunglasses. To see this at a Pittsburgh Alfa dealer is no surprise at all. It is painted not wrapped. Was done outdoors in downtown Pittsburgh by a local artist. Must’ve been inspired by the four leaf clover

It’s not wrapped. That’s painted on.

After I typed that, I thought that was probably the case - - because otherwise any seller with half a brain would remove the wrap to sell.
However, it’s very clear that the seller does not make good life decisions.

Haha yeah. Actually I found the artist’s site and it looks like the car was originally white and then coated in a matte black Plasti-Dip that was painted over. So while it technically was painted and isn’t a vinyl wrap, it should be possible to peel it off. It would take some work but hypothetically the original paint under there should be OK.

I should add that it looks like the car was actually coated in spray-on Plasti-Dip then painted with the Warhol theme. So while it isn’t exactly a wrap, it should be possible to peel it off an reveal the OEM white paint.

So... You don’t trust the twin boosted pentastar based block but you do the bmw v8? I can’t blame you!
Man, its a lovely V8, but after knowing what twin turbos did to my Kia It took me whole.
Now I’m one of those idiots that looks at turbos and wants to install a stupidly loud blow off valve.

Wait - so, I was just now able to view the ad online (my work randomly blocks things), and I’m even more confused. It’s listed as a NEW car, that someone put a lot of $ and time into, and it’s being sold at $8k *under* MSRP?
So much for the art car market...

At first I thought it was Bernie Ecclestone.

I wonder if ripping it off would be a violation of the Visual Artists Rights Act ?
![]() 02/22/2018 at 10:38 |

My guess is that since it is sitting at a dealer the artist probably signed something saying he relinquished any rights to what happens to it, but that’s just my guess.

I really like it except for the guy on the hood.

That’s cool you could actually find something on the car. It would take a special person to buy a car painted like that. If Warhol wasn’t on the car, it would actually look pretty cool.

Yeah I do. I’ve had almost no issues with the engine.
Turbos do make an engine make more power, but the N/A engines give you a different feel.

If it wasn’t so far away from me, I might have to.
![]() 02/22/2018 at 12:08 |

To be honest, me too. Not that I would buy it and drive about in it, but I think the rest of the car, sans hood, looks good.

It’s like some underwater camo.

I didn’t think about it like that, but I agree.

I bet the artist could be commissioned to do a similar paint job without the portrait. I also bet it would be so expensive it would make a lot more sense on a QV than a base car. Honestly all I did was google Andy Warhol Alfa Romeo and it popped right up.

I mean, I wouldn’t pay for it and really wouldn’t want to drive about in it. I don’t know why they would paint that car though.
