the most “I know what I have seller” I’ve encountered.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I emailed:

————————————————————————————-

Is your civic still for sale?

Can you provide any pictures of the interior?

As an EX, does it have A/C, power windows, power locks?

Not sure if its required in Conifer, has it passed emissions?

Thanks,

————————————————————————————-

He replied:

————————————————————————————-

Yes it does have power locks , windows and ac. Auto trans , power steering , power brakes. Interior is way above average. Grey . Ill get some interior pics loaded tommorow , its way too cold today. I belive the windshield is original and looks new. Honda glass. Yes we have emmisions up here, i have not taken it down yet . I just changed the plugs and it does have the catalytic converters in place. I would think it would be fine , does not smoke at all. Even during start. Got all the parts at Napa, and ive inspected the whole car , its in good shape . Bill

————————————————————————————-

and then he called... THREE TIMES! and never left a voicemail.

And then he emailed:

————————————————————————————-

Hi Andrew , ive called acouple times in reply for the Civic , ill get some interior pics on today. Youre the first serious person , but im getting others . Bill

————————————————————————————-

Now Bill, you seem nice, and it’s genuinely pleasant to get a reply from CL for a change! but to be honest, you’re coming off a little desperate, and this is just our first date.

and barn find? it has 144k, thats about standard. and a new motor, and terrible paint, and the wrong wheels... I could go on.

anyhoo, CL is bad, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , sky is blue

A barn find ‘95 Civic. Ok, that fad has officially jumped the shark.

I weep for English. It’s amazing to me that so many people can verbally string sentences together but suddenly there’s a keyboard or a phone and their IQ and skills drop by 50%.

Seems like it should be the other way around. Talking is just ad-libbed writing.

Please ask him why he took every photo in portrait orientation. Nobody gives a shit about their garage floor and the snow next to their car.

One of the damn photos doesn’t even include the whole car.

I am imagining this seller moving his phone back and forth, pacing to and fro trying to figure out how they can fit the car into frame.

I swear to god, this is getting worse and worse.

If Bill is of a certain age, he may not have grown up typing with a keyboard since that was seen as “women’s work” - it’s why they had trouble selling the first laptops.

But if you’re a millennial? There’s really no excuse.

Well shit. I wasn’t expecting “Barn Find” and Civic to be in the same sentence for at least another 30 years.

if I had to make gueses, based on where in the mountains he his, and his reply, and the fact he called 3 times, and how he has valued this car, I’m going to guess he’s in his 50s or older.

of course, judging people with little to no info is half the fun of CL shopping

probably all screen captures from a portrait video walk around when he documented his barn find for his youtube channel :D

I have friends like that that will never, ever turn their phones into a landscape orientation. Friends that will try to take a photo of a group, and will back up, ask us to scrunch together, then back up some more. They finally take a photo from 20' away.

Isn’t “barn-find” more of a type/category of car? Typically old, interesting, low miles?

Not literally “I found this civic in a barn, it’s a barn-find”.

Kinja'd!!! MonkeePuzzle > Yowen - not necessarily not spaghetti and meatballs

I guess it COULD mean both. but... I suspect he intends the former, and it was never the latter. Said it sat around for a bit, based on the sun faded paint, sitting in a barn was not where it was.

When I sold my Grand Cherokee on craigslist a couple years ago, I quickly realized that attempting to communicate by email with typical craigslist users was a futile exercise, and instead provided my google voice number to text me with. People were still stupid, but the shorter format made things go more smoothly.

no, i ask, because i picked one up a few months back, but its a manual. stupid thing gets a legit 40 mpg, with the 1.5l engine..... i had given up on buying a “quality”, “well taken care of” example, and went for bargain basement $1000......

yeah, you just gotta hold out till something decent shows up..... or lower your standards.

depending on what project i am putting together, i might buy 2 or 3 rough “bargain” examples, and put together one “clean” one from all of the parts.

something ought show up soon, just gotta be patient.....

Kinja'd!!! MonkeePuzzle > Die-Trying
02/21/2018 at 22:13

Kinja'd!!!1

or change the plan. I am now looking at an ugly bodied but mechanically sound gsr, with plans to swap its parts into a physically nice civic at some later point, if i ever find one

Kinja'd!!! Die-Trying > MonkeePuzzle
02/21/2018 at 22:24

Kinja'd!!!1

that makes things surprisingly easier. you would be AMAZED at how many nice civics are out there with a blown head gasket, or a dead trans/stuck in gear, and if you are not worried about any of that, you can get a great deal on a BODY.......

Kinja'd!!! MonkeePuzzle > Die-Trying
02/21/2018 at 22:29

Kinja'd!!!1

yeah, I’ve seen EG shells in good condition for $500, but boy do they sell quick.

but having the running gsr would buy me time to hunt for a body
