Well, I guess that I warned my wife, and she warned me right back. She isn’t aware of how seriously I’ve been considering getting a C5 Corvette, because she previously told me that I didn’t “need” two cars.
Round one of negotiation for a 2003 Z06 did not result in very similar values. So, I decided that today being my birthday was the best time to risk upsetting my wife about this, and I just told her:
“I almost bought myself a Corvette for my birthday today.”
Her response was “I would have killed you.”
It’s going to be tough when the time comes.

“Need.” That’s cute.

Ooooooffff... Is it a matter of money or did she outright not supportive of cars?

She views me having a second car as clutter, and she is very opposed to clutter. Money is only a minor factor.

She’s no fun

Wow.....that’s not a good sign. Clutter implies it isn’t necessary or won’t be used....

Actually, she’s lots of fun, and I’m lucky to have her as my partner in life. She’s just not fun on this particular topic of an extra car.

I know, right?

I think that kind of thing works better if you’ve got a big 401k... I’m hoping free oil changes and car washes for my better half helps...

It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Every once in a while, my wife asks why we “need” three vehicles. She says there would be a lot more room in the garage if the Cougar was gone. My truck lives outside, so I gently remind her that if there was no Cougar, the truck would take up MORE room in the garage.
I’m basically given leeway to replace vehicles as long as I don’t increase debt. I’m given grief when I talk about cars, though, as she doesn’t share my enthusiasm there,

Generally my marriage has worked best when we discuss and agree on major changes. To be fair, I have not yet laid out my cogent and reasonable explanation for her yet:
- I want it.
- I want it.
- I’ve got to have it.
I’m hopeful that she will come around when I’m willing to have that in depth discussion.

My wife doesn’t really want to see a car in the driveway, she likes having all cars in the garage.

My wife has given me the green light for a third vehicle between us... after we both graduate. According to her, it has to either be a C3 convertible or 67-68 Cougar. Either can be had in decent-to-excellent condition for 15k, depending on the year. LS/t56 or Windsor/T5 swap are both relatively well documented for both, too.
This is after we move out of her mom’s extra house though.
