If youre wondering why I haven’t speculated on the Supra/Z4 in awhile it’s because I’m still feeling on target !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from November. I still say that this BMW-Toyota partnership is all about a mild-hybrid powertrain that will be introduced in the Bimota Zupra (specifically the Z4 M50i).
Yes, I’m even sticking to the Supra being priced from $33k at the bare end. I’m also sticking with BMW using an “M50i” branding for this, the next 3-Series, and every vehicle getting this 370 hp or 380 hp mild hybrid I6 which will only be paired to an automatic and be tuned up for the next M cars.
All of this is just speculation from a Kia Amanti owner.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again.
Your insane to think the Supra will start anywhere as that low
But carry on I guess

I have a better chance of having dinner with Zoidberg tonight than the Supra starting at 33k. And Zoidberg and I are on opposite sides of the country right now. Mark my words: if by some miracle the actually Supra does start at 33k, I will trade all of my cars in on one.

I’m going against the community nameplate nostalgia and going with actual branding and market positioning on this one. I can be wrong easily and often though! But I go with what I know rather than what I feel.
I know that Z4 will slot the Z4 between the 2 Convertible ($40k) and the 4 Convertible ($51k), that’s market logic. The Supra should offer an entry price point below the 2 Coupe ($35k) simply due to brand hierarchy. Having a 2-Seat, 4-cyl, BMW-built Toyota that starts above BMW’s best driving car that is a 2+2 premium brand vehicle would be a hefty branding failure to overlook. Especially since sportscars have lower expectations when it comes to equipment, materials, and technology.
$33k is a lot of money for a 250 hp Toyota. That’s premium pricing. Everyone said that was too much money for a 400+ hp V8 Mustang that could hang with the new M4 just 4 years ago.

Will the Z4 be a 2+2? Will the Supra?

Damn, I hope my wildcard speculation gets you a new car and dinner with Zoidberg because that would be an awesome combination.

The price is less important to me than the possibility of a manual transmission. Still holding out hope

They are 2 seaters.

I still think a manual is coming for the Supra, just not the first model year and definitely not to any engine outside of the base 2 liter and 3 liter.

The ND Miata costs over $30k, the Supra will start damned near $40k.

Plus 40k US for sure. Probably only the inline 6 and auto box as well. And then the hybrid on the refresh.
Everywhere else will get the 4 cylinder as well with the manual box an option depending on the relevant market. So Oz won’t.
Regardless, it’ll sell about a third as well as the Toyosubaru...

Yup, Supra will be at least $45-50k.

Would be awesome if you’re right, but I think it’ll start at $39k, just creeping in under the $40k threshold for a base model. Top tier models will be around $60k.

According to C&D the Z4 will start between $50-55k. I’m expecting the Supra to come in at the mid-40k mark.
The Supra also won’t get a 4cyl option in the US. Based on the leaked specs recently (articles that came our yesterday), the 0-100kmh time for the 335hp I6 is 3.8 seconds.
Toyota is also still planning on a 3 model sports car lineup. It could be that the Supra is their mid-tier model, but I’m guessing that’s not the case. I’d expect them to put something between the two, in the $30k-$40k range. This would make perfect sense with them bringing out successor to previous models (AE86 and Supra), and a new Celica slotted between those two would make sense. Perhaps they will do something with the 4cyl model of the new Supra and introduce it in the U.S. as a new Celica.
